1. Do you need to buy a trap for each villain?
As evidenced in many threads and videos, you only need to buy a trap for a villain if you want to PLAY as that villain. You'll need the crystal for the element of that villain. Only one villain can be in a trap at a time, but any villain you replace in a crystal goes back to the Prison where you can put him into a trap later.
2. When you trap a villain, is the villain in the trap forever?
You can move him in and out. If he goes out of a trap, he goes back to Prison where you can load him on another crystal later. Having multiple crystals of an element is simply a convenience factor so you don't have to load someone up at the Prison. But you never lose someone if you replace a villain with another in the crystal.
3. Can you level up and upgrade villains?
Unconfirmed.
4. Do you think they will repose Giants and Swap Force Skylanders?
Actual Giants and Swappers? No. Core characters from either? Yep.
5. Do you think they will make new Giants and Swap Force Skylanders?
No. Chase variants is always a possibility, but nothing that hasn't already been mentioned.
6. Do you think they will repose Core Skylanders from Swap Force?
Yes. Frankly it's their only shot at keeping a healthy repose ecosystem, because folks are tired of 5 Stealth Elfs, 5 Spyros etc.

This site and videos on youtube. There is some mis-information out there but I ALWAYS defer to the Activision staff. Irate Gamer's latest video answers MANY outstanding questions on the crystals IMO and the information comes from Lou Studdert who heads production for Skylanders.

The repose questions are totally speculation on my part. Activision has NEVER touched the gimmick skylanders on subsequent games. In SSA, there were no gimmicks. Giants have not been reposed and I don't expect swappers to get reposed nor the Trap Masters in game 5. Core skylanders are the ONLY ones that have consistently gotten a new lease. Frankly, it would be nice if they did a zag instead of a zig. I hope they prove me wrong.
