Here's the topic where you can list all the books and films you have been shown by your school over the years that weren't exactly suitable for your age group. smilie
They can be violent, disturbing, rude or upsetting.

Coming from a primary school that wouldn't show you a film that was a PG (had to be a U) my secondary school showed some terrible things.

Hotel Rwanda - people in Africa being hacked to death. R.E.
Blood Diamond - more people in Africa being hacked to death by kids. R.E.
A video of someone being water boarded - R.E.
The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas - upsetting. History
Stone cold (book) - a boy becomes homeless and his friend gets murdered by a crazy ex army guy who goes round killing homeless people and putting them in his basement. English
Noughts and Crosses (play version) - racism, violence and SEX (smilie) English
Millions - smoking swearing nun in a vision (11 at age, rated 12 :0000) English
Big Fish - upsetting at the end. i cried boohoo well embarassing when ur tough English
The Ruby in the Smoke - showed a ****ing skull of a dead little girl who'd been murdered by an evil old woman being found by her little girl slave. I hate skulls. English
The last ever episode of Black Adder - sad? History
The Pianist - ghettos in the war. History

I'll add more as I think of more.

Here in Washington (maybe even in all of America, IDK) we don't get to see anything that isn't PG without a consent form. We did get to see "The Murder of Emmett Till" though.

None, I wish we did watch and read mature movies and books. I don't understand how many things can seem inappropriate. Life isn't kind and clean the way it is commonly shown.

In Religion they sowed us 911 and some rape (Didn't see anything inappropriate).

Let's see....

In a Parenting class, my 10th grade year, we had to watch a woman give birth. Well, we watch three women give birth back to back with a full view of the baby coming out.

Then in 9th grade English we watched Romeo & Juliet and the teacher had to skip over a sex scene. He didn't fast-forward far enough so we saw Romeo's naked butt.

My world history teacher would let us watch some movies that weren't school appropriate. It's not that they were bad, like we watched The Patriot and The Mummy and Glory and some others, but school policy is if it's PG+, you had to get a parent's signature to let you watch it... he never made us get signatures.

We watched The Miracle of Life in Biology, but only the part where the woman was giving birth. And my teacher was sick about it, too. She would make us watch it, then she would rewind it so we saw the baby going back in, then we would have to watch it again... and she would laugh! It was hilarious but disturbing at the same time xD

My English teacher was having us watch Romeo and Juliet, and when it was time for the sex scene, she covered the screen with a piece of paper. It was funny 'cause she stood near that TV for a good ten minutes to make sure we wouldn't see anything lol

That doesn't count as other classmates showed it you, not teachers.

I got lesbian porn and the infamous blue waffle shoved in my face in year 7 and 8. A friend got it off one of the boys (the video of two lesbians was on almost everyone's phone). She showed her mum and was like "What's this? *insert name here* sent it me ;~;". Yeah her mum phoned the school and all the boys with it on their phone got in **** and the class had to have a talk.

We've watched some disturbing movies/documentaries in honors biology this year. He showed us one at Halloween about these mosquitoes that lay eggs in your skin and to get the larva out you have to pop the white bumps like pimples.

There was another one about the bubonic plague that they showed us in honors biology this year and social studies in 6th grade. Lots of gore and it was pretty depressing.

I think that's mostly it... We watched/read other things that were kind of inappropriate, but not really overdone or terrible.

We had to watch the same movie, but our teacher was quick to turn the TV over towards the door and skip it so we saw nothing... Except the student who came back from the bathroom.

My science teacher put a video of a male seahorse giving birth to hundreds of other seahorses. Its a thing.

And in my first secondary school year(Scottish) we had to watch a video that showed genitals full on. And we just moved back onto that same topic in PSE. I'm scared.

The infamous "Year 10 science video" where you watch a woman give birth is probably the worst I've seen. It's almost like a rite of passage at my school.

There's also the movie 'Lars and the Real Girl' which we watched for English. Technically not innapropriate, since we're all like 17, but still hella ****ed up. The movie is literally about a guy who buys a sex doll and pretends it's a real person.

What? Do you people often watch fiction in school?

I mean, we did take a look at one or two movies on our english class, but those were just for some of us to get to listen to english being spoken.

Other than that, all the films we ever looked at in school were documentaries, or films made for schools to use.

My school doesn't do it all of the time, but we do often get to watch fiction such as The Grinch and Monsters University around the holidays and before breaks when we have nothing else to really do. Or, when we finish a novel and sometimes a short story from our enormous English textbook, my teacher lets us watch the movie/short video that goes with it (which we usually have to take notes comparing and contrasting the movie and novel though...). Otherwise, yeah, it's all educational stuff and documentaries

Why did they read it?
The Diary of Anne Frank is an important historical piece of literature, and it's a pretty good read in my opinion. It's great when learning about World War II, and specifically the Holocaust.

Or were you asking why she fingered herself?
She has to stay in an attic with not much else to do... it's just natural curiosity as she is maturing.

What do you define as inappropriate? Some could argue that The Bluest Eye is still inappropriate for anybody of any age in school, but we've just finished reading that.

I've also seen Miracles of Life in 8th grade.
