I'm in cognitive psychology and we were literally lectured about this. When you're focusing your attention on something (counting the passes), background events become out of focus. So a vast majority of people miss the bear.

With that said, the video you posted doesn't work. Why? The title LITERALLY gives away the trick of the test. If someone sees "Moonwalking Bear" in the title, you can bet they're going to be looking out for the bear, and not watching the passes like the video instructs. I am somewhat disappoint. >.>

You know showing us a video with "Moonwalking bear" in the title is generally going to make us automatically look for the moonwalking bear.
