But a 17 year old girl has no business dating a 25 year old man, and vice versa. It's just........No.

And you have no right to say who they can and cannot date.

They can do whatever the hell they want, I'm just saying that it's something that will ALWAYS raise suspicion. Even one day when LGBTs are fully accepted, wide age gaps will always be viewed as a little sketchy. |

@DummyZ That's not even bad because they're adults. This girl is an adolescent with feelings for a decently-aged man.

As ToM said, that's different because they're both adults. Adolescents should not be involved with grown adults, it's too.......Risky. |

Large age gaps may work while they're young but once one gets old and the other is still middle aged the older one can't do half the stuff the younger can.
The younger is often forced in to having children at a younger age than wanted because the older wants them, same with marriage. 5 years would be the max tbh. |

I actually agree as a girl in our school who was 16 met a guy on facebook who was 24 and all they did was have sex but she said it was ok 'because we love eachother', that doesn't change the fact that it is statutory rape and is disgusting, adults doing it is fine because it's not illegal and adults are actually fully grown and developed, but a 24 dating a 16 year old is creepy

If age is just a number, then how come you have to be 21 to drink?

I get all the points here, but it's honestly their choice. I mean, yeah, it's not the "social norm"(Don't get me started on this) but who are we to state they can't do that? They have laws and whatever, but if they both agree with it, and their parents agree, then why not?

What if it was a ten year old and thirty year old, though? I think Metallo's point was that this girl is under aged, she isn't even legally an adult yet.

The difference between a ten year old and a seventeen year old, however, is that a seventeen year old at that age where they are mature enough to make their own life decisions. |

because that's a law and not some weird universal rule that the human body will explode or something upon consumption of alcohol if they are under 21 |

The law just to simplify it, assumes anyone under 21 can't handle drinking, even though someone over 18 can go to war and kill people for their country or die for their country. It makes no sense. |

I think the law is based on some biological thing about puberty being well finished by age 21 and the body being able to process alcohol easily. I know 18 seems old enough but sometimes puberty doesn't complete itself by then, so i reckon they wanted to be rather safe than sorry. Then again, I don't know. |

It makes plenty of sense. Do you think that the government just used a random number generator to decide that 21 is the age limit? |
