I know it sounds crappy but here's what the storyline could be:
To rival the skylanders, Kaos made a group of special elite evil skylanders called the Darkcore skylanders. In the game, you get to play as Kaos' Darkcore skylanders as you conquer skylands!!!! In the end, Kaos defeats the skylanders so that if they made a 5th game you could be the skylanders trying to gain back their freedom.

That's exactly what I was thinking! Except what about the guys from giants and swap force and spyros adventure? They could be evilized too while in the game

How about when you put the characters on the portal kaos jumps up and evilizes them

I didn't think of that but it sounds pretty cool
