yeas, but personal study can also be really helpful!

i think it depends on a combination of your art goals, learning style, and what's accessible to you. for example, if you can watch youtube tutorials (they're hard for me), those are a nice and inexpensive resource. what i've needed the most help with is figure drawing and animation, so i sought out classes that can help with that. my skills are a little better, but i don't naturally draw a lot of people, so i don't really use what i learned from that class very often. if i have time, i animate on my own, but i'm usually short on time. even if you have a teacher, a lot of it comes down to practice. having a teacher can be a good motivator, but i tend to use my art to contextualize my thoughts, which is inherently motivating (does mean my skills are severely lacking in many important areas). having something i might be able to post somewhere is a nice afterthought. that's not my main goal when i do art, although it is something important to consider for people who want industry jobs. but unfortunately, a lot of industry jobs are also about networking and being in the right place and the right time.

but, like, i agree, i'm lucky to be in a position where i'm (barely) able to take art classes. they should be accessible to everyone who wants to take them bc online tutorials just aren't always enough. sometimes art schools, libraries, or galleries provide free lessons.
