sister topic to the other one i just made because these things have been on my mind a lot maybe it s the subreddits i go to or i see or i look at but i am almost always met with more immediate hostility then guys even if we have the same thoughts or similar posts there and in my understanding of it mostly because i am a women as the people who go at me are mostly guys who have a clear viewable history of being sexist or they opposed to Lindsey to call me by other names such as b-tch or the C word whenever they are riled up but it s like not 1 or 2 experiences i have had there it s like everywhere all of the time and i have a hard time seeing reddit as a place i feel welcome on and mainly just because of my sex and more like just a different version of 4chan

To be a bit more specific...

I never really used Reddit until last year... I never really used Reddit again after last year... I was in at least twenty different subreddits asking legitimate questions AND providing people with legitimate information that I noticed wasn't present anywhere else. And what do I get for it? Angry hate vulgar threat messages and rage quitting mid argument.

Everybody on Reddit has an ego larger than their brain and an attitude even larger than their ego. It doesn't matter what you do or say, if you're a girl, you will be pummeled with sexist, vulgar, disgusting insults and... I don't even know what to call some of that other stuff. As usual, I always come up with a smart ass remark which scares them and their downvoting posse back to their mother's tits, but the point is that it always happens no matter what I'm trying to ask or discuss like a normal human being who just so happens to be a girl.

My experience on Reddit just downgraded farther and farther into that to the point where I couldn't even get legitamate answers anymore and I had to leave. I could not have the answer or not have the answer while receiving sexist threats, so it's pretty obvious which option i was going to pick. But don't worry, I got the last word.

I quote and slightly adjust my post in the sister topic...

I'm not sexist in any way, even if it sounds conceited, I'm guaranteed the least sexist person you'll ever know. Reddit is an echo chamber that cannot handle constructive and productive real discussions. It is a place that cannot see the world past their own little values and refuses to be civil in grown-up way.

I've had moments where I went "oh, I could add something valuable to this topic, I should make an account!", only to see someone report how someone's been creepy to all women commenting not soon after, so honestly you don't even have to be there to feel unsafe.

Some idiot posted on r/NewOrleans today asking if anyone lived in a dangerous housing project before it was torn down. Homeboy said, and I quote, "Can you give me details and leave nothing out?"

I think the good parts of Reddit (i.e. the subs about movies, shows, hobbies, and local places) are easily the best social media we have. But there is a certain kind of voyeurism that can get almost as bad as 4chan sometimes.

EDIT: I avoid all political subs, even the ones I agree with. It's just not worth it.

Well, the only thing I usually use reddit for is to look for detailed reviews of video games, films and hobby stuff I might be interested in purchasing, and I usually find topics that are useful in that regard (I'm not even registered).

But yes, it's just internet after all, I guess it's going to be like AIDS anyway in most cases, such as twitter and pretty much every forum on the planet.

Only the reddit where otters and squishables are talked about, everything else belongs in the garbage bin until further notice.

and to further define my relationship with reddit

i mostly go there to find work on web development and art and drawing subreddits to which yeah it has given me work but it has also given me stress creepy people and a want to just not be on the internet anymore period let alone reddit... it s been a good few years of being there and i find myself having to switch accounts just to avoid people who wouldn t leave me alone

if it wasn t for the work subreddits i never would have gone there and i sometimes wish i never even found out about that much despite whatever money i made from it because i question if it was worth it to begin with the only other thing i do is ask questions that are too detailed for like yahoo answers or something but as some of you guys pointed out beforehand god forbid you re a girl with a question you re labeled the BIGGEST idiot on the face of the planet and you shouldn t even be present on reddit at all because of that

i mostly lurk and **** but when i do post its never about me or my immediate identity, i kinda just fade into the crowd and i like it that way. the only times i ever do talk about myself as a woman and the day to day interactions with it are either trans or women specific subreddits. i post incredibly rarely in the first place but even in those communities ive gotten the occasional creep trying to hit on me hence why i never do much anywhere of note in the first place. honestly at this point i mainly use it for gaming news and funny memes about titanfall

honestly i dont even feel that uncomfortable on 4chan. if you mention you're a girl they'll just say tits or gtfo or call you a slur, but that's standard 4chan toxicity.
