I remember when I was 7 waiting aaaaall day for shepherd's pie (for the non-British, that's a mincemeat and potato pie). Finally we sat down to eat it and I remember that first bite, so excited and so hungry....

The ****ers laced the perfectly normal pie with sauerkraut.

no offence to anyone who likes it. actually forget that-full offence to anyone who likes sauerkraut. 14 years later and i still have the taste in my mouth when I think back to that fateful evening..

oh and of course I refused to eat it and got the whole "children starving in Africa" bull****. how about don't put something disgusting in a 7 year old's food without telling them?

*shudder*

there's so many things i could list...

spoiler for domestic abuse
my bad grandma used to make "smoothies" (read: blending random foods together regardless of taste) and would force me to eat them without tasting for herself how disgusting they were. just... don't mix kale leaves, yogurt, and carrot juice, please. there were worse combinations, but i've blocked them from memory.

there was one time i was forced to eat black bean brownies. i don't remember if they tasted bad.

oh, and the other time she almost forced me to eat food that had been microwaved with plastic wrap on top. y'know, the type of plastic that melts. i think i ran upstairs and locked myself in the bathroom for that one.

hhhhh i want to puke even thinking of it. like... there was no need to force me to eat stuff like that over and over. she's not crazy -- just playing weird mind games.

Aside from actually rotten food, but açaí. Yeah yeah brazilian, yeah yeah trademark food, whatever. It actually tastes like sewage to me, I can't even smell it. Another traditional food that I hate the smell of is pequi, but it tastes nice, as long as I don't breathe in too hard.
Close second is artificial cherry flavor on anything, because it tastes like lipstick. It's bad enough that, not only it ruins any cake it's in for me, I can't get lipstick with a strong scent or it stays in my tongue (not actually even touching it) for a time. And I love real cherry!

to be specific, maybe the worst one is what i call "macaroni". it's supposed to be macaroni and cheese. but she just boils macaroni and puts 2 slices of kraft pasteurized cheese product over it and calls it a meal. oh lord
there's also "mystery fish"..

i spent my entire life eating actual garbage and now that i'm moved out, its sad to say but that garbage is all i know. i don't know how to make anything other than what i've always ate lol living on a rotation of the same 6 meals

i feel your pain i learned to cook said garbage at direction of mother when i was 12 when she left i taught myself how to cook food i actually liked you can definitely do it too it isn't as hard as it looks at all!

honestly I'm so picky with food that i can remember the worst. Last thing I hated was a burrito that had a mix i didn't like at all.

Also to add on, 1 time in elementary school we had the twin hot dog minis... 2 small dogs of hot variety. So I went to get ketchup, except that I could not read. So I grabbed this "Taco sauce" instead. Tasted awful I was quite sad and tried not crying.

back in high school me and the boys were given a snack from the teacher during an icebreaker game: a large slab of chocolate. we swarm this thing like a bunch of left 4 dead 2 zombies but by the time we started eating we realized what had happened. the teacher had given us bakers chocolate as a prank, and me and the boys were stuck dying and sharing the water fountain with a taste of pure dirt and sawdust in our mouths. it was awesome

my mother used to make me eat bread and sliced cheese for lunch and dinner she used to give me the cheap leftovers i was always served last so i got the lesser stuff she would feed me like a 4 year old until i was 15 legitimately so basically whatever my mother made me eat food was horrible i still have difficulty with food because of that
