Are you proposing we bring back Forgotten World? That's the only way I see.

That's because users either grew up, got banned, or left. Those who remain are all jaded 16-30 something meme lovers with intense internet brain rot — offended by very little, yet incredibly milquetoast as not to be seen as cringy and/or problematic. Solely posting on darkSpyro for the sake of posting, just as we have for a decade now. Any potential fresh meat is either 1) scared off by the userbase's propensity for gential-related humor or 2) simply too busy arguing on the Spyro subreddit/whatever discord server they use.

This can likely be chalked up to a general trend in changing behaviors of savvy internet users — cynical, nonreactive and desensitized. The "normal" yet paradoxically stranger people are relegated to social media or even deeper fringe communities.

So even if you made Legend of Spyro or Skylanders 2.0., the type of people to seek this place out are probably just going to blend in with the masses. Hell, the last truly new addition to S&N ThunderEgg (no offense intended here mr. egg) fits in so well I often forget he's a newer user. I believe we'll be stuck this way until the end — unless something improbable happens!

if reignited/ctr/nsane couldn't bring back much more than a few older members, nothing but a second kids-centered craze like skylanders could make darkspyro as popular as it once was. even then, it's iffy. forums are a dying platform for discussion, there are very few big ones left as most discussion is centered around reddit and social media sites like twitter, instagram, youtube. plus another craze similar to skylanders is very unlikely due to the toys-to-life gimmick being nonprofitable, oversaturated, and the fact that the majority of consumers are simply exhausted of it. more skylanders isn't the answer, the peak of skyro darkspyro activity was around 2013-2014, while the final game was released in 2016. it would have to be something new, and if the thought of one gigantic kid-focused gimmicky craze including spyro the dragon is unlikely, imagine a second completely different one. it just ain't gonna happen. with reiginited around, the franchise isn't dead anymore, just not really worth discussing outside of the subreddit for many people.

however, darkspyro has an ace up it's sleeve that has helped it survive this long. the offtopic boards are still decently active, much more so than any of the spyro and even many skylanders boards. i have no doubt the reason the offtopic boards have cemented themselves as a staple of darkspyro is their placement on the site. above every specific spyro.skylanders board is idle chatter, video gaming, stuff and nonsense, alongside smaller active boards like roleplay and fanart. if someone were to join the forum, the first thing they see wasn't the game boards, but the off topic ones, ensuring that those always got used to some capacity. the offtopic chat has led to bonds being created between users that, at least for me, always tend to stick in my head. This is especially so because a lot of these connections were made a long time ago, when we were a lot younger.

the atmosphere in this forum is almost like a nostalgic retreat to see some old familiars. the site is updated enough with new polls and new updates to keep it from going too out of date, and the mods keep the site in check just enough to ensure that the site doesn't fall into total anarchy (which if it were to happen would legitimately be the death of the forum, as i think most older posters would just stop coming back at that point). the perfect nostalgic balance of the site creates an environment in which older users, even those that leave for long periods of time, tend to come back to the site relatively often. it's still nice to be able to talk about stuff with people you know. platforms like reddit and twitter, while infinitely more popular, lack the intimacy and it's hard to get to know the true thoughts and opinions of a person in 140 characters or when they're still trying to play the system to get le epic updoot points, let alone get to know a person beyond those opinions. the fact that a skype group still exists and is active should tell you that nostalgia and familiarity is one of the biggest reasons why this site is still alive.

between the offtopic boards, the discord and skype chats, and the idea of further development of spyro and crash games, the forum is far from dead. it will never be as poppin as it was in 2012 and i think anyone that still expects that level of activity needs to lower their expectations. but i think as long as dark52 keeps this site up and running, there will a couple users still here, still talking.

or making its the porn topics idk im a green sparx/gnorc'd what do i know amirite

it feels like the sentiment is that some day, dark52 is just gonna pull the plug on the site. maybe due to budget concerns... but i think it's possible to add a donation function to the pages. we might not get enough traffic for it to mean anything tho.

is it possible for ownership to be transferred somehow? i have absolutely no idea how that would work, and i doubt i could afford it.

or perhaps the feeling is that it's best for ds to eventually disappear. but i have a hard time feeling that way considering how new i am to the community.


posting on the site gives me some sort of interaction to look forward to every day. i doubt that's healthy, but if the site were to suddenly disappear, i'm not sure if i could find a community that replaces that.

although... i think that's naive... continuing to find new communities seems to be a normal aspect of life.
