I read a 1940's "Buck Rogers" comic book that was in a book that collected some of the Buck Rogers strips, and in the comic book was a character named "Commodore Pounce."

But he was balding, very short, had a colossal ego, and all his goons fawned all over him.

Sounds like Kaos, doesn't it?

I thought Kaos was more of a Napoleon reference (well, the incorrect "short" Napoleon). But even if the real Napoleon wasn't short, he had a colossal ego and everyone fawned over the next emperor of Europe for as long as that lasted. But who knows? Maybe someone at TfB is a Buck Rogers fan. :)

I think the balding egomaniac is some sort of common troupe, so it is likely that they're all taking inspiration from each other to some extent. Intentionally or not.
