i've discovered something i call the "s.s anne effect"

it occurs when something with an unlikely chance of occurring happens once, so you're compelled to check any situation where the unlikely outcome may happen because it occurred that one time.

it's of course called the s.s anne effect because of the one time they put a great ball in the trash can on the s.s anne and never did anything like that again, but everyone is still compelled to check the trash cans in every pokemon game.

Are you sure there's not another game with trash can items? It might be Platinum or BW, I haven't done that in a while because time is better spent using the Itemfinder.
