You should always strive to match your source material to its very basic intents, that being starfires childlike wonder, her orange skin, purple outfit, red hair and green eyes. I hope I don't come off as aggressive but to say that this is a good move because of black representation is a bit silly because you shouldn't make a character black just for black representation, you should hire an actor based on their acting abilities and their matched description with the character theyre playing. if this happened to Thanos and he was made orange people would have a field day

Also, I've found a bunch of black girls cosplaying Starfire and doing amazing, it's obvious that the actress herself just doesn't match for starfire, plus the outfit really doesnt help

Are they open to crowdfunding for a better hairstylist for the entire cast? Because I'd be willing to contribute. The actor for Beast Boy looked amazing for the part before they did whatever they did to his hair.

I'm hoping that since these aren't official photos, that they were just caught out of scene. As the actress of Starfire said, she was wearing that coat cuz it was cold out, same with Beast Boy and Raven. I especially hope that they aren't putting Raven's jewel on a necklace instead of her forehead because if they did it defeats the purpose of it :)

Keep in mind we've seen very little of the work yet, I don't think it's fair to say that the actress doesn't fit her.


I fundamentally disagree with you that POC representation in and of itself isn't a good thing; I think it's a wonderful thing because it hasn't been so good in the past. Also, try not to assume that she was selected simply for representation and that she's not a good actress. Not saying you are, but the wording of your post can imply it.

Honestly, my main issue with her is the hair. If was just a lighter shade of magenta, long and straight, I think she would look a lot better. Her being body painted orange would be nice, but it is only a web series so the budget is probably low.

As for her being portrayed by a black woman, I don't really mind, as long as being black isn't a part of her character since Starfire is not a black woman, she is Tameranian and it would make no sense.
(Lets be real tho, they should of just gotten a white actress and gave her a really bad fake tan)

As for Beast Boy and Raven, they look, okay. A bit costumee rather then, 'Oh yeah, these are Beast Boy and Raven IRL' IMO, but they will hopefully look better post production. So yeah.

The comics seem to have a bit of a thing as I recall. Beast Boy does fall for Terra there, but she's purely manipulating him and tricks him into loving her to help spill secrets to Slade/Deathstroke. (Terra is so much more of a heartless ***** in the comics) Later on, he kinda takes notice of Raven when the dust settles from Terra's betrayal and his heartbreak from that.

It's probably doing a bit of it's own thing. The comics mix in others, but across all forms Robin (Dick or Tim tends to vary), Cyborg, Beast Boy, Raven, & Starfire tend to be rather notable and popular members, though the cartoon may have influenced that a little. Though Cyborg's lost some recognition with the Titans in recent years after the comics moved him to the Justice League. Wonder-girl (Donna Troy) and Kid Flash seem rather notable and could at least cameo in the show too.
