That's cool, actually. What kind of things do you look for? Is it hard to just enjoy the show while you're making observations? Where's the line, I mean?

Surprisingly enough, it hasn’t gotten harder for me to enjoy cartoons as a result of my dreams. All I look for is something to get a reaction out of me. There are still plenty of shows old and new that can evoke a strong reaction out of me. I gravitate towards comedy and action because they usually provide something really over the top in its premise/execution.

Also, I don’t mind animation mistakes or “going off model” if the content distracts me enough to forgive it. OK KO is extremely inconsistent with its character models on purpose to show off the storyboard artist’s individual take on the universe. I appreciate that effort more than I can for Steven Universe because I’m supposed to be enraptured by the story and characters more than I do with OK KO. Not to say I don’t care about the characters in OK KO, because I do. I’m just saying the inconsistency fits with the tone of the show more than it does with SU.

Finally, most cartoons nowadays are done digitally using computers and are generally sped up as a result. Back in the day, you’d have to physically draw out with pencil, ink and paint every single frame. Now we have software and hardware to streamline that process easily. Things can still look good using digital, but it can also allow some short cuts to be used in favor of long, strenuous redraws

I’m not an expert by any means, btw. I’m just a dumb kid who wants to make cartoons. I have a lot to learn about the industry and the medium as a whole

darkSpyro is a honeypot for cartoon lovers because Spyro and Skylanders are cartoony games, and the average demographic here is like nerdy 13-20 year olds too afraid to leave their house. Though in general, people have been getting into newer cartoons because many have broader audience appeal with overarching story-lines, lore and character development.
Most people aren't sperging over older cartoons because 1) they're typically comedy-focused and lack the (perceived) depth of some newer cartoons and 2) a lot of people don't really look for/watch older stuff in general (like 10+ years older) unless the series is still ongoing or holds personal nostalgic value. Just look at the "Last TV series you watched?" thread to see what I mean.

Personally, I watch cartoons because I appreciate the artistry put into them. I'm not a future animator like ToyNerd, but I love observing stuff like character design, color theory, atmosphere, and framing. I'm into older, obscure, "artistic" animation though — those commie slavs made some surprisingly beautiful animation in the 60s-80s.

There's an argument to be had that we're in a golden age of cartoons with a level of creativity not seen since the mid/late 90s, if not even the 40s/50s.

I don't watch or like all of them (and I could probably stand to watch more) but I can't fault people for watching them. My issue is if they then get smug about how that's all they watch, instead of widening their taste pallet with live action programming.

Also, let it be know that I’m not a snob when it comes to cartoons either and I quite like dumb ****, too. As my username suggest, crap from the 80’s and 90’s that were only made to push loads of toys onto the market always have a special place in my heart. Especially Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Those shows are BAD by today’s standards, but their relative cheapness makes me kinda love them.

Also also, to address CAV, I don’t just watch cartoons, but I rarely watch and finish anything besides them so... *shrugs*

Well then I must be a COMPLETE FAILURE then because I don't care about either of those shows and focus on shows I do like (Pokemon, OK KO, Loud House, Milo Murphy's Law, etc). I don't need a popular opinion telling me what to do or watch. I AM MY OWN PERSON, FOOLS

What's poppin, I dig cartoons but also appreciate live action stuff. Cartoons can be a real good medium to convey certain things and can be easily palatable by people, especially children. However, real life shows also have merit but it's pretty rad how everyone can be different.
