Can the media just. Stop.

I just was watching the Today show, because for some reason we get a rerun of it in Australia at four in the morning, and they were complaining about "millennials" and "gen z" kids never being able to unplug, or something of the sort. It was a story about kids wanting to disconnect from social media, but they never held back on completely annihilating us for using it so much in the first place. Why do you have to constantly seperate us from the rest of society? Why do you make fun of every single thing we do? Who cares what people do in their free time, and how does it possibly affect you? As long as we don't use our devices during school or work and neglect our responsibilities, why do you even care about how we chose to spend our time?
It seems as though every single day they have at least one segment or story on the news about how we are all a lost cause and how we aren't doing anything right with our lives. Sorry, it feels as though the entire world is absolutely against us. Stop complaining about the younger generation's increased susceptibility to mental illness when the world is the way it is. It's not our fault we are the way we are. I'm all for taking responsibility for our actions, but I can't possibly fathom how growing up in a world like this can benefit us at all.
Can we just stop putting each other down and instead work on a way to fix it, or possibly just accept it? The world is always changing, we need to learn to stop resisting it.

... And at the end of the story on the Today show the presenters had the gall to say that they'd never disconnect from their phones.

Every generation gets generalized, "millennial" has just become the latest lazy buzzword. I don't let it bother me much, especially when they start talking about stuff like avocado toast.

every generation has its down sides and over generalizations. millennials are just a target b/c of an obnoxious minority that gets offended by every little thing and because we grew up with computers and therefore understand them better. on top this, it was their parents ( who were gen xers and even baby boomers) who kept them in a bubble, which led them to not really understand the world around them.

I'm pretty sure that every generation ever has and will be stereotyped in some way. It's so ancient, it was probably in the Middle Ages, too.

"I say Sir Lancelot, looketh upon these youths, evermore toiling away with their foolish games and not training to serveth under his noble majesty!"

"Tis a shame, for wheneth I was a young, I devoted my life to liberating the holy land. Such is this generation."

It's not really helpful to be hearing this contant criticism in your ear everyday though. Maybe it's just another symptom of being from gen z (being too sensitive) but it's really detrimental to personal growth in my opinion.

Old bigots in power just love to throw younger generations under the bus while screwing over their futures and their lives. Yes, teenagers ARE stupid but when they ask not be killed by mentally ill people given easy access military weapons, I think the teeangers are more than reasonable.

When people say "Children are the future.", they mean "Children will be molded after ourselves." which was the norm until the invention of rock and roll... plus the leaving age was raised from 13 to 16-18 after World War II.

We will all grow old eventually and I know new generations will come up with weird new trends but I'd rather complain about Nazis, baby boomers and terrible shows like F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and Big Bang Theory than when kids asking not to die.

It was like that before even then. Look at caveman times,

"Ugg." (which, when rougly translated means "I just can't seem to communicate with my son. We can't do things like bonking each other on the head anymore; he wants to be locked up in his sub-cave with the skins drawn shut to block out the sky fire."). To which the other caveman would say,
"Ugg." (which, if my knowledge holds up means, "I agree, Thogg. Children these days don't know they're born. I suppose we were like that, before we had to sign on at the caveman dole and get ourselves caveman jobs, and before we knew it we were working in caveman cubicles, filing reports on stone and managing accounts with drawings on the wall. It's a phase, they'll grow out of it I'm sure."

Even the primordial ooze before them mocked their young. "You 0.6 second old parasites don't know what it is to be 2 seconds old! When I was your age, I didn't have to worry about multiplying and making humanity. Don't think it gets any easier; you'll start to ache when you've spread yourself a few billion times and combined to become one great engulfing creature which will be shaped into a future dominant species. Back in my day, we didn't even have a nerve system or any form of sentience. Oh no, my grandfather had to tell me off by hitting me in the head repeatedly because we couldn't talk in those days. Why, if the slipper weren't to be invented in a few million years, I'd tan your hide right now just for being so optimistic. Think you'll be more than a single-celled organism, do you? You'll be a parasite like me, and my father's father, and my father's father's father."
