this is happening in Yountville, California.

apparently, the gunman is a veteran with PTSD who was a patient at the veteran's home there, where the hostage situation is taking place.

local law enforcement, and the FBI are still in negotiations with the gunman, who supposedly has an automatic weapon and refuses to let the hostages go.

he let some of them go at the beginning, but kept others. they're not sure what his motives might be.

the home treats veterans from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars who have PTSD.

apparently he was no longer a patient at the facility. a week (I think?) prior he was asked to leave the care home, so I guess he showed up with the gun, and that's when he started taking hostages.

This just shows how terrible the state of veterans' care is in the United States.
