I was asked this before, so I'm just copy-and-pasting what I had said.

It takes off of the name of a species concept I had. I used to play Spore a lot during my early teen years, and one creature I had made I grew the most attached to. Eventually I redesigned it to be separate from the game, and they were sort of my main thing for a long time. I just took "waak" out of the name and added "sian", I guess as an identification thing? I dunno, it's stuck with me since then.
