I'd say it's halfway between horror and typical fantasy. Fantasy in that it involves going on a finding a legendary relic, going on a quest to defeat the dark lord, etc., but horror because it has some really grim thematics - the very first piece of dialogue focuses on genocide, other controversial and grim topics will likely be referenced or shown too.

I think I'll stick with ToP right now, because I feel like working with that title will help put me in the mindset for getting things right. May change it back to Discordia before uploading. I'm not aiming for a horror story, but with the story I have in mind, grim thematics and dialogue would fit really well.

I'm starting to think something like Asphodel could work too. I don't like Discordia as a name, so changing the name of the world into something more fitting could kill two birds with one stone. I'll need to think of another name for the world first, though.

I'll name the NPC Hana, for now. It was the first name I came up with, and I shouldn't think too much about it. Jani could work too... again, think I'll stick with Hana for now.

Completed Tower of Frost... mostly. Haven't tested it yet, and I'm pretty sure there are a few errors at least. I rarely get things right on the first try, especially when it involves directions, which is used during the scene with Mika and Hana.

So, I'm about 50-60% complete with the prologue. Most of Frost's Domain is just a cutscene, with maybe a boss battle against Frost. I wonder if Chapter 1 should have a boss too? I'm considering making [Spoiler] a boss, but I'm not sure how well that would work.

Speaking of which, I was hoping I'd upload Prologue and Chapter 1 together, as V0.1. I'll need to start work on Seraph Inn at some point, then - I've already planned out most of Seraph.

In more serious notes, it feels like Nintendo wants to try to do the Toy stuff again remember that the company used to be a card company then a toy company.

Prologue complete but, again, I feel like I'm starting to lose motivation. Having the read all my own dialogue felt cringey... the bad graphics don't make the emotional moments work well at all. I'll need to do a lot of modification if I want Hana's death scene to have any kind of impact. I'll leave that for later, not doing that again when going through all my own crap only demotivates me.

This whole thing is important. It's not about being good or anything, it's about... well, something very important. So I'll just need to keep in mind that quality isn't the most important factor. If I fail, if I give up, then there could be dangerous consequences. There is more than one reason why it's called Theatre of Pain.

As for quality, as I said, the bad graphics don't help at all. The fact that two characters, one of them a main protagonist, are named after GuP characters should also speak volumes about how little faith I have. Normally, I'd try to keep that kind of thing as far away from my creations as possible.

I could have named Hana after Tony Kakko instead, but that's not much of a step up either. I wanted to give her a similar convention to Mika - I wanted to give her a masculine name to compliment K8-E, who I imagined as a masculine robot with a feminine name. So essentially, a male robot with a female name and a female spirit with a male name.

My mind immediately went to Mika from GuP, so that's what I went with. I think she was originally called Naomi or something in my very first version, but I couldn't remember for sure, so I gave her a new one. Don't even have a faint idea what K8-E was called originally. Xandria was always Xandria, don't know about Fenrir, think he was Kitsune or something.

Mika, Tony, Hana, even Xandria to an extent, are all pop culture references. Naming conventions based around pop. But so is the current title, Theatre of Pain. Though I really can't think of anything more descriptive. It's not exactly a horror story, but I highly doubt it's going to make anyone feel significantly happier after playing it.

Back to subject at hand... yes, I must continue ASAP. No doubts about it. If I want to avoid the consequence for as long as possible, maybe forever, then I cannot give up. I must continue; I must not give up; I must keep going, despite all the hardships.

nintendo cardboard is kinda stupid

About 30-40% done with mapping out Chapter 1, probably about... 20% done in total. Not much, considering I wanted to get the entire thing done this morning. This may take much longer than I hoped if I don't hurry up.

Working on the Item Shop right now, which is where I plan to have Fenrir join. Want to make it look as small and cluttered as possible, which I think I'm doing pretty well. Seraph Inn hasn't gone too well, however, so I'll hopefully try touching that up later. I'm using a modified sample map right now - it's quite simplistic, and I like that, but at the same time, I really hate using samples. I was once planning on making the entire game with samples, although I've scrapped that idea to make a more polished and less rushed game, so using samples now would be quite jarring.

Well. It happened again - the glitch. I was designing the market area of Seraph when it happened.

I can't think of any good ways to express how pissed off I am. This glitch is the reason I gave up before, it makes any kind of progress straight-up impossible. And if I have to give up now... ****. Nope, things are not looking good at all.

I'll try some more, but as I said, I will have to give up if it happens again. Besides, it makes me paranoid too. Knowing that data can just delete itself without me knowing until I go back and check, so of course I'll want to keep checking. I'll just keep trying for now. But, this is far from a good thing, and could really break my entire game. So I'd have to give up.

Hope it doesn't come to that.

Honestly, I'm at a blank for what to make next. I've made the necessities - Inn, Item Shop, Market, etc. - but I need more areas for the fetch quest and for [Spoiler]... maybe I should start thinking ahead now?

Should probably make some houses for characters like Gloria, though I liked the idea of making them travelling merchants rather than locals. But would that make sense, considering what happens in Chapter 3? That part doesn't make much sense anyway TBH. It's necessary, however, because both Leif and Gloria have personalies built up from their interactions in Chapter 1, so it'd be much better than simply adding in some randoms.

Come to think of it... yeah, I can think of reasons for why Leif and Gloria do what they do. It won't be just a coincidence.

I'll start brainstorming more ideas for Seraph. It needs to come across as a large town kind of place, it's already the biggest map I've made in all of Fes so far, and I intend to make it bigger.

Then again, Nintendo will put the PDFs up for free on the site... Not that I know where to print directly on cardboard for a good price.

About 60% done with the map now. Still, it feels like I'm going at a snail's pace - I'll need to hurry up soon. 60% map design and 2% events (this one guard at the bottom of Seraph who only has two event contents) is far from enough considering I hoped to complete the whole chapter several hours ago.

Could really use some extreme motivation right now. Like Lost Horizon, except somehow more motivational, that would be perfect. Or I could just listen to Highlander again. That usually works, though I'm busy listening to The Last Full Measure right now.

exactly. Heather's actions are what set Veronica to get back at her and gave JD the tools for murder, Heather Duke (in the musical) pushed JD off the edge to kill Ram and Kurt. I will say JD does become the villain the second half of the movie, but the beginning is all the Heathers.

The relationship between Heather Chandler and Veronica seems messed up as well. It wasn't a great friendship, but I think that deep down Heather did consider Veronica a friend, which is why she trusted Veronica enough to drink the drain detergent. Yeah, JD's taunts is what got her to eventually drink it, but she wouldn't have drank it unless she trusted Veronica. The show seems to point it as just a popular kid bossing and using a less popular kid around when it was more then that.

My question now is, what is the consequence of their actions? In the movie and musical, that was Martha. Everything Veronica did, it affected Martha. She was teased, called fat, and mocked for her attempted suicide. Who/what is going to be Martha? It can't be a fat girl, because Heather Chandler is "fat". It can't be a black girl, because McNamara is black. It can't be a gay guy, because Duke is a stereotypical gay guy.

They mixed up McNamara and Duke's roles as well? McNamara is the lowest totem of the Heathers when in fact it's supposed to be Duke, especially considering her rise to power after Chandler's death.

My concern is that they're going to paint "Duke" as this innocent girl going along with the Heathers, and have her the one that attempts suicide, while leaving all the nasty and vile things to "McNamara"

I'll try Theatre of Pain one more time. I don't like this rate of progress though. I still have barely anything done, and I was hoping to have Chapter 1 completed two days ago. Not to mention I have, what, 8 chapters to make? That's about 24 days of work for a game where I originally expected no more than 10. Less than half my current goal!

As I said, this is not going well at all.
