A lot of them have it, a lot of them don't. It's that issue that's been mentioned where too many anime fans work on anime and there's not enough people bringing new(non-fetishy, non cliched, non 'omg let's stick EVERY cool idea at once') things into the table. Support the ones that do stray from the norm in a good way.

I wanted to quote Miyazaki directly but I don't think he meant what I meant with too many anime fans making anime. It's more specifically about the tropes being repeated because they like them and not because they're working with the story.

Oh? In what way, if you don't mind me asking?

Mostly just strangely sexualised young girls and fanservice. Even when a character is of age I still notice that anime has a general style that makes everyone look really young as well. Japanese society has a problem with men preying on young girls & boys and sometimes it really shows in anime. That being said, there are still a lot of Japanese shows that don't cross the line and are bearable to watch.

It received some critical acclaim, but I have no idea if the actual production was a costly process.
