I spent my holiday doing precisely, without any exception... (I am the woman/the customers are the gremlins)

this...

Why did all of you darkspyro peoples have to show up at my place of work yesterday? :-(

Now, as you know, I don't celebrate Christmas, so there was no point in taking a day off from work.

Is there anybody else who decided to keep making the moneh instead?

But the extra moneyyyyyyy...

I don't celebrate holidays, so I guess I make the most money.

On a serious note, it irritates me that stores close, especially with Christmas. Not everyone spends their holiday sitting at home unwrapping presents and stuffing their faces with turkeys. It is such a pain, local grocery stores were closing almost before the afternoon, come on.

The issue with that is that a lot of the workers DO celebrate the holidays and would rather spend the time with family and "stuffing their faces with turkeys". And if the businesses don't close then people who would want to be with family they don't see but once a year get forced to work whether they want to or not. And most of the time, they don't want to and many complain when they're forced to for Thanksgiving for early Black Friday sales.

Yeeeeeah, but I still need to get stuff done. It's a hassle that I have to plan things around a holiday that I don't celebrate, because if I want a loaf of bread, and I so happen to run out on the 24th, then too bad for me, lol.

Well, most companies don't actually care. They would definitely rather being making more money. I understand what you're saying, but I have a life that doesn't "take a break" for the holidays, as do very many other people. This is more or less the way I was taught, I work through holidays.

In some cases, you can actually be payed extra to work on holidays, especially christmas. Some employers actually want to give you an incentive to work through the holiday.

Really, it's just one day, it isn't that significant, just worth pointing out from the perspective of someone who doesn't celebrate the holiday. It isn't life altering, lol. XD

Guess what..... I DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO~ lolololo9lololololo0;loloolololol

Actually, it is ironic that you would post squidward to offend me, when, in fact, I would be the holiday hating Squidward in this situation, lol. XD

Is anybody going to be working on New Years, or do you have the day off? I think most people have the day off, but I'll probably be working anyway, lol.

You're right, the companies care more about money, hence why I noted the people complaining about working on Thanksgiving is a thing. Many like you may not celebrate and may not mind and that's perfectly ok. It's just a situation where a majority do, especially in the US, celebrate Christmas. It's the big one so to speak. A lot of people will want off and I've been in that kind of understaffed situation before, it sucks and would only be worse than what I experienced. The companies would have to force people to work that day, whether they want to or not just to be able to get a register running. That's how you piss off your employees, that's how you get worker strikes or just lose employees, and overall a bad reputation to lose business. Being closed for 1 day to cater to the majority rather than making a few extra bucks in sales works out better in the end than being open and pissing off all but a relatively small group who doesn't care.

As for the holiday pay incentive, keep in mind your note of "some" is very true. If there's any legal way to get out of it to save a few bucks, the company will. I use to work for an amusement park that didn't even offer overtime pay because it was "seasonal work", so you could work 80 hours and still get normal hourly pay.

And btw New Years isn't as big of a deal, many places are still open for that one.

Yeah, that's what my post before last was all about. I'm just complaining about it for the lolz, not being serious. It doesn't actually bother me that much. Just worth pointing out from the perspective of someone who doesn't celebrate the holiday.

Yeah, it depends on where you work. Of course, it is also relevent who you're employer, or the company is. If they actually want you to come into work, then they'll likely bribe you in with a bonus, if they know the business will be more lucrative than the drawback of asking someone to work on their holiday.

You make good points.

As a note, I do not get holiday bonuses, lol.

Yeah, they want you to buy everything in sight, and be outdoors for New Year's.

Considering Christmas is one of just two days my work location is closed for the entire year, I'll gladly take the day off. I worked Christmas Eve, Boxing Day, and I'm set to work New Year's Eve and Day.

lol, you're a worker then, you're making the monehhhhhhhh~

go, you have been granted your one day off.

You're required to work on New Years Eve/Day, or you're just going to?

I think I have the option to say no if I wanted to, but I'm already scheduled and am playing the role of substitute for a coworker who fell gravely ill so I'm not about to leave others hanging.

I spent two months working just a single day a week due to classes and filming. I can't really complain that I have more days now.

Alright, at least you're responsible then. It helps, you know, when you actually have co-workers you can trust/rely on to help you out when you're in a bind. lol, nothing's more aggravating than a group of jerks who are looking out for no one but themselves, and I am totally not projecting, lol! XD

The more days, the more money, right?

More days means more money but it's also draining and gets in the way of other projects I'm working on. Like I said I can't complain since the money gets funneled into said projects and savings, but it'd be nice to rest for more than one day at any given time.

I feel you. I just don't really know what a day off is. I'm a workaholic, so to speak. I can't really afford to not work, so I motivate with soda and pizza to stop myself from yearning for a vacation, lol.

Do you work in retail/restaurent? That is a pain.
