... I mean, seriously? I'm not the only one who says something like that around this time of year and ruins everybody else's fun, right?

I think Christmas this year will be ****, too. Last year, I had school projects and stuff, this year I've got pretty much nothing. It's not even snowing and I probably wouldn't even have noticed if the Christmas tree wasn't up... actually, I probably still wouldn't have noticed, because I rarely go outside my room anyway. No reason to.
@cowpowa23 and @ZapNorris Yeah, sorry for not feeling festive. **** me.

I went through the 'ugh Christmas' feeling already so I learned not to treat it as too big of a deal rather than spend energy disliking it. It's no Halloween for me, but I love getting together with family and eating gooooood food. No pressure about expensive presents(just chocolate, simple clothes, books, it's the thought that counts), no forcing myself to enter every conversation because anxiety ruins any that gets too heated, I just have a good time and rest when I feel like I need some silence/people who are bad at videogames laughing at their mistakes.
Also, south hemisphere where it doesn't even snow on December(well at all where I live, but a little below it does on July), never needed that sappy white christmas theme. In fact, a fan is a requirement this time of year because it's almost a sauna before nighttime.

lol, I just get a kick out of making a joke about it. I do not take it seriously whatsoever. I don't celebrate the holiday, but since ds makes such a big deal out of it every year, I thought someone needs to be the one who rains on the parade.
Anymore grinches?

You're hardly alone. Spend some time in the adult world, you'll realize that half of the people who celebrate it think of it as little more than a chore. Hell, most Christmas-focused media has themes about disillusionment and the lost spirit of Christmas; the prime example of this, A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, was published almost two-hundred frickin' years ago!
I think a lot of people end up hating Christmas because of the way others react to it. I'm no Grinch, but I've always been a bit of skeptic. You can't help but roll your eyes at all the people bloodthirsty for Christmas sales or kids throwing fits about not getting what they wanted. Despite everybody complaining about the consumerist tide Christmas has taken, nobody has really done anything to stop it, and it seems as though Christmas starts earlier every year ... uhh just try to have fun kids |

interestingly enough, dr suess was very anti-consumerist and "how the grinch stole Christmas" was supposed to a lesson for the kids; christmas is about giving, not getting. unfortunately, paper money beats ant-consumerist messages.. its actually rather ironic that dr suess was anti-consumerist considering his stories are the ones that always are getting cashed in on. (see the cgi lorax movie as an example, ant-consumerist movie with a bunch commercial tie ins) im excepting grinch 2018 will be no different. anti-consumerist movie with a bunch of commercial tie ins. suess is rolling in his grave lol

The spirit is nice and all, but idk, I've gotten a little tired of it. Dad makes decorating absolutely insufferable as he doesn't help decorate, just sits back and tells me & my mom how we're doing everything wrong. Parents also only ever play the same Christmas songs performed by the same artists. God forbid we play anything written or even just covered by someone after I was born. Dad basically puts all value of Christmas on the number of items one has under the tree, even if this means Christmas shopping in the Spring (any birthdays between then & X-mas be damned). Which he's crap at hiding gifts and opens and watches any dvds he's getting me before giving them to me, so despite actually liking the surprise of opening a gift, I know what I'm getting months in advance. Haven't even gone to visit any other relatives in years, so it's always just me, my mom, & my dad which doesn't particularly help and makes it feel like any other day of the week, just with Dad metaphorically jumping up and down on my bed to open presents at the crack of dawn.
Christmas has just gotten monotonous and predictable with nothing exciting or different. Plus there's the whole corporate crap of Christmas overshadowing Thanksgiving and trying its best to do the same to Halloween as well as the insanity that is Black Friday. Not sure I'd call myself a "grinch", but the whole holiday feels kind of overrated and gets more-so every year.

lol, yeah, I meant here on darkspyro, seeing as most users (since the last ten years I have been here) seem to get really into it. I am very specifically surrounded by people irl who share the same view as me. I think I'm older than the majority of the users on here, but I thought there would be more people who have overall grown tired of the holiday. Who have grown up to be grinches, lol. X3 Quote: parisruelz12
Oh, definitely, Christmas is all about dat monehhhh~ poor dr. suess. Quote: Seiki
Do your parents know you feel that way about the holiday? It kind of sounds like that situation of everyone is doing things the way they are, because everyone thinks that the other person is actually enjoying themselves. Well, at least it's almost over. Except around where I live, people keep celebrating looooooong after the actual given day, but whatever the frick! XD

Yep. Me & my mom mostly agree on a lot of it. We tried noting feelings to Dad before and called a "Scrooge", and not as a joke. There's no changing his mind on the matter. Not visiting with family is mostly due to grandparents being dead and Aunt & Uncle rather busy with their own much larger family. Been nagging mom for years to try to visit, it ends up not happening for one reason or the other. Still, determined enough that I've still been nagging this year.

I’m basically in the same boat. I try to get into the spirit, but I never fully can. Even when I go to Christmas parties, I’ll have fun, but I’m not getting that “Christmas” feeling like I would as a child. There’s just such an over saturation of Christmas, it’s ridiculous. Halloween is my favorite holiday, but even that will get overshadowed by the market. It can be too much. I hope one day I can be in the same spirit I was, way back when, but for now I’ll stay skeptical. |

Today, I woke up, opened my presents, and that was about as far as "Christmas" went. Sure, I'm glad I got a Switch and stuff, but that can happen any day of the year. Christmas is, well, Christmas - and most people would at least acknowledge this.
Not my family. As soon as the presents were unwrapped, my dad had already put the news back on and was hearing about more murders/bombings/etc.. If not for the presents and the Christmas tree, it could just as well have been any other of the 365 days of the year. To be fair, he did turn over to a Christmas special of some TV show or something at some point, but I doubt he actually acknowledged that it was indeed a Christmas special.

You're not alone. I mean, there are plenty of people out there who don't celebrate Christmas, even the Hallmark-ized version that us Westerners are used to. Today was a normal day for me, for all intents and purposes. And as someone with a birthday on a big holiday (New Year's Eve, but I know Christmas birthdays), I can say with confidence that having your birthday on one of these big holidays makes the affair... depressing. Because your "special day" ends up taking a back seat to the actual holiday. So, yeah, I know people (Christians even) who have grown to have some resentment toward Christmas. >.>

Yes, we got another one in the house! Yeah, I hear holiday-birthdays suck. You wound up with pretty much the worst possible one, too, yikes! NOTE: Just in case nobody saw my other post, I clarified that I meant does anybody else feel like this here on darkSpyro, not in the world. I mean, obviously there are a lot of people who don't celebrate it. My friends and I don't, so I'm nowhere near the thing. As far as I usually see, every year, ds seems to get pretty into it. I wanted to know if anyone on here shared my avoidance, lol. Anymore grinches, scrooges, or goonches?

People tend to get really into Christmas around here in dS because of the spirit of being thankful, happy with what they have, happy to spend time with their family, and happy to give to each other or give joy into the world. And while Christmas is commercialized heavily, and we tell of each other of getting gifts and get excited for them, it isn't that we're being selfish not that it's bad to be selfish here and there... But we're showing our thankfulness and our joy for what we we got, because people close to us gave it to us and we find that they put their heart into it. Being grouches about spending time or getting these things would be like taking a metaphorical poop on the hard work and time they put into trying to get those gifts for us, and with money, currency being normal in the world it is now, unfortunately it must be used on anything to get others something... Yet the heart was put into it.
Despite how the world around has commercialized it, we like to see the happiness and joy of spending time for each other, and the happiness and joy of others. We could go one step further and just spend time with one another as a gifts, but since we enjoy seeing other people happy, we also take another step further by giving our loved ones gifts we worked hard for to put our heart into. It's true also that we could be thankful of the time we've spent together any day with family or friends, but we somehow find joy in the whole world doing that and celebrating it together. Not everyone is obviously like that, some take "buying gifts buys someone's heart" so much that it can end up like the commercials or the movies based around the holiday. But the reason why, from what I've seen, most of here at darkspyro celebrate the holiday is just to share the joy, the happiness, a positive moment with their friends here. And to enjoy spending time together, this community isn't the best... But we tend to have positive outlook on each other here, which has made most of us friends here. And so we get very happy seeing those friends happy and sharing our love and happiness. That maybe why you're not seeing many grinches here, we're being happy spending time together and being happy with what we have, and want to share that happiness with each other. The world doesn't always have to be dark or bleak, there is a lot of light in it too. Though other people out in the world may celebrate Christmas through consumer products... We're celebrating Christmas through the joy and love it gives here, at least most of us are. Not like those silly commercials on TV. We're kind of like that Charlie Brown Christmas special, we can gather around a pretty bad tree, and still be happy with it because at the very least, we're together. And that's what matters the most, we don't want to ruin the happiness, because we like seeing each other happy. Just as any friends like to do toward their friends. With me thinking and believing in this way, then I can say I am not a scrooge, because I personally love to notice the good in the world and not the bad. The world is really a good place, that doesn't mean there isn't bad... But good things are still here, it just takes a certain kind of perception and looking hard enough.

I like giving gifts to people (and opening my own), but if human interaction extends longer than that, you have a problem on your hands.
Especially my cousins. Who thought six boys was a good idea in one household?
