1) the forum itself isn't dead
2) skylanders is dying; yes but spyro technically isn't, activison (via twitter) confirmed they were going to do more remakes of classic games. what that means for spyro, however, is currently unknown. most people are leaning towards the assumption that spyro will be remade, or a spyro remake will be announced next year, as it's spyro's 20th anniversary.

Skylanders isn't dead because with a mobile game and two seasons of Skylanders Academy on the way.

Spyro isn't dead because Spyro is most likely to be remade for PS4.

The issue isn't that there aren't games, it's that people gave up. Look at how fast Season 2 news fizzled out; it's the same users and once we're out of stuff to talk about it's done. It didn't bring anyone back from lurking and I'm starting to fear not even more Skylanders or Spyro remakes will.

And to be fair, I'm worried more about this place as a whole than the fandom. Skylanders Instagram can whine all day but it's literally the same 5 users "mocking" the concept that they're alone in the tag when that's in fact happening aside from the odd memes and reposts. DS has people from a lot more walks of life and losing that is just too much.

Weren't there times in the past when Spyro's future was uncertain? I wasn't around, obviously, but I've always kept tabs on the Spyro franchise and it's had a bit of a bumpy history, to say the least. Yet this site and its forum survived.


Who knows, for all we know Activision may have another radical reinvention in store for the Spyro franchise.

Mind you though, I do think this site isn't fun anymore, but that's another topic and not about the Spyro fandom to me. That fandom will be fine, Crash's was fine while he was dead. Spyro will be fondly remembered. Skylanders is more debatable and I don't think it will last the same way, and it's always been a bit of a gaming black sheep. But like Bifrost said, forget about the fandoms, get in touch with everyone you care about here, there are great people here, that's the real loss. A lot of users still stayed around from the time between DoTD and Spyro's Kingdom, without a lot of hope for new stuff, but a lot of people also left or just got busier as the years went on and they lost their interest in this site's topics.

Don't try to save the fandoms. Don't worry about wether they'll go on. Connect with the people you care about here. Spyro will always have a following, it's been through worse before, and Skylanders has at least had its time. What matters more now are the friends and good people you met along the way.



Oh yeah, speaking of that, Is Dark52 gonna add those as big topics, or is that only the main games

No one even bothered to move Myths Awaken from Fandom, so dunno.

But the Spyro fandom is in both ways worse and better. Yeah, I made some friends who I have to this day, but nowadays it feels like a good chunk that's still invested 100% is bitter and toxic. The sheer amount of rigging in the F4F polls is disgusting and I can't set foot in the subreddit or Spyro Forum without seeing posts that get to Neogaf levels of complaining. It's very much unlike the Sonic community where the constant back and forth made people embrace the memes rather than bitterness so I can't even recommend people from here to keep looking for their purple dragon fix.

But yeah, keep the friends. And please don't turn future Discord chats into what the bad part of the Spyro fandom is today.

Well, I'll just say that I hold a grudge against this website embracing 'landers, seemingly for the sake of just keeping a flow in the website and so it's not obsolete compared to a completely different website for that series. Maybe I should start agreeing that it's been beneficial for this site, too, but admitting that is a double-edged sword, because there's some of us who secretly have civil discriminations we so want to admit, like from genwunners or people who don't give a **** about the OG trilogy and crap. I have to give this site credit for not falling into that trap lately, though, but a general consensus here is that a good chunk of us are just conflicted about whether to embrace Spyro or 'landers more, because if we fanboy over either of those too much, the flamewars would just start again.

There's nothing wrong with the forum being reduced to just a social platform. I for one love this place because it works regardless of when we talk about Spyro or a load of old tosh.
'Course if the forum is dying I propose we turn it into a 40k fandom. We can call it "Gorkadorka", or "DakkaSpyro".
