It annoys me when people get offended on others behalf acting like they're some endangered species, but the people who are actually affected are 100% ok with it and actually want it. It's insulting to the people you're trying to protect and if anything more offensive than the actual issue at hand.

But was there actually any backlash, or did Nintendo just change it to prevent anyone from possibly complaining in the future? Because if almost nobody was actually complaining, you can't just say "those evil SJWs made Nintendo change it!!!!!!!111 This is too much political correctness!!!!!!!!!!!111111!!1!" I haven't heard a single person complain or even comment on the Sombrero Mario on the box, in fact, I never even knew that image was on there, because I didn't look that closely.

I think Nintendo made the choice before it got any heat, and this change might be for Mexico only as well.

They should remove Mario from the boxart too. He is sterotyping Italian plumbers.

There were some posts on Twitter and Tumblr complaining about Mario being a "shapeshifting racist" (one guy actually said that) and other complaints along those lines. Then a lot of Mexican people replied saying that they loved the homage to their culture and the SJWs should stop with that. I think Nintendo decided to change just the boxart to avoid more heat.

Mexicans also love Speedy Gonzalez and thankfully they do,, he's a great character. He's a stereotype yeah, but he's heroic and good hearted as well.

Tumblrinas nearly drove a food truck cook out of business because she sold tacos. I'm more surprised Nintendo complied with this at all, the general attitude of japanese devs is 'wow what the **** are you guys on about'.

Nice Clickbait title, is there any evidence or claim from Nintendo themselves stating that was the intention? because imo it's just an aesthetic change that is actually an improvement, ( shows a lot more action, the original picture of the desert level was actually blurry and only showed mario standing) and I see no reason to complain unless the outfit actually gets removed from the in-game, or Tostarena gets the boot.

I guess it's more of a case of "if we're gonna change let's make something better out of it", but you're right, gonna change the title. Sorry for that.
