it's a tactic. for one, if you need to go to the public bathroom and do your business you won't have to worry about the noise of opening a wrapper because the pad is already there. second of all you got a second line of defense.

If I was a girl I think I would be scared to use tampons. What stops them from going too deep inside your insides?

you can't push the tampon out of the applicator if you put it in too far. the string is also pretty long

Oh, I thought it was just a tube you stuck right in. It makes sense that there would be a doohicky built into it to make application easier and safer.

Using a pad is like walking with a damn mattress between my legs. I only use Tampons simply for the fact I can walk and run without the tampon shifting like a pad. It's impossible to go swimming while using a pad, the goddamn weight of the saturated pad would make me sink to the bottom of the pool. -_-

They may be referring to Toxic Shock Syndrome. Terrible thing in the 80s - sex education seems to have reduced the dangers of being infected by them now though. I was talking about this the other day strangely enough, but I'm a bloke so I don't get any of this stuff.

Menstruating girls and women need to remember to change the tampon every 4-6 hours (or as needed) and to remember to remove the last tampon they use.

I honesty think Tampons are safe to use but then again it's only my opinion.

Why the **** am I even here

I used to prefer pads but honestly they're just really gross in every way and I didn't want to deal with that. Applicator tampons are the new black.
Also, I think you're only at risk of toxic shock syndrome if you already have a cut of some sorts inside your vagina for bacteria from the tampon to enter your bloodstream. Because of this your chances of getting it are pretty slim if you take care of yourself, and tampons should be clean if they were in sealed packaging.

I couldn't use them before losing it. it's not the case for all girls but I absolutely could not before. it refused to go in and the one time I forced myself to use one it hurt so bad. some girls aren't that lucky

I used to have trouble putting a tampon in as a virgin but I found that laying on my back relaxed my muscles enough for it to work. I guess it also depends on your hymen too? Some people just have a harder time with it.

I use the smaller ones and it was sooo painful to get it in. I even had issues getting 2 fingers up there and my hands are tiny. I think losing my virginity was just a requirement to use tampons. i envy chicks that can use them no problem and are still a virgin

I use pads because I hate pulling the string out...but then again no one sees tampons..

I'm fairly certain that all hymens have a natural opening anyway (hence why discharge is able to exit the vagina) so if you're inserting anything you just need to give it time to relax and open, although many people do find trouble with this.

Well knowing that infection exists it's one of the many reasons. I mean with tampons (though this varies on company who made them and person) doesn't entirely soak up the bacteria, which can lead to more infections (yeast I think is one of them). That and my family has have a history of tampon use issues because I think we produce more bacteria sometimes so. Just don't want to risk and take the 8 hour pad.

I use pads. Tried to use tampons, but I just hated putting them in and could practically feel them I was so aware of their presence. Plus I could only fit the extra light ones in and I'm super paranoid they'll leak. You probably didn't need to know that last part but now you do and I sincerely apologize.

thanks for failing me sex ed, because i learned more from people on a purple dragon forum about vaginas than i did with 16 weeks of class

All sex ed did was teach me all the different ways sex can kill you. And show me a whole bunch of pictures of diseased male parts.

On topic, I'm genuinely terrified of using tampons. The whole concept of them makes me feel ill thinking about.

Pads. I was too uncomfortable with tampons when I was young and I just don't see the point in changing now. Plus you can get sick from tampons.
Side topic, what were some myths you believed about periods or other sex ed stuff when you were young? I used to think that if you went swimming there would be tons of blood in the water and if you wore a pad in the water it would come out of your swimsuit and float on the surface.

Oh, I'd always heard there was bleeding involved. But to be honest none of the girls I've ever been with have been virgins, so I don't really know anything about hymens.

Edit: But that makes me wonder...if the hymen doesn't break, what does happen to it? Does it just shrink?

If I had the "blood river", I would probably go for pads cuz I don't want to insert anything to my vagina.
