I definitely think that Norm MacDonald really helped make the scenes with Glumshanks hilarious. His VA from the games is fine, but I'm just not sure I'd have found them as funny w/o the voice switch. <.>

I think there's got to be a requirement from bigwig executives or something for childrens' cartoons to include cookie-cutter "moral lessons" from time to time (talking about the value of "teamwork" seems to be a popular one, for instance). I've seen it awkwardly inserted into too many cartoons to count.

Not all kids cartoons need them, but you know...

It works really well on some episodes(Dream Girls or the S1 finale) but because they're a bit more subtle about it. The pilot made Spyro far too big of a jerk to teach the lesson, and let's not even get started with the mess that's The Skylanders Are Falling's "moral"(don't overwork yourself? Some evils hold back bigger problems? Look at yourself in the mirror to see if you're going too far with your plans?... No, it's "listen to your friends"???).

Most episodes have genuinely alright morals, but they really shouldn't have to stick to the cookie cutter ones. Space Invaders kiiinda tries to teach that Kaos' situation will only make him worse and that the team shouldn't be so reckless, but then it has to become about trust and the last act is pretty rushed.

Well not exactly early, we don't know anything about S2 because of Acti's warnings while it was being produced. Hex very clearly has a huge role in S3 but it might start as early as the second season.

Hex always looked like she could be part of the main cast.

She probably will become secondary like Eon and whatnot,though I'm really curious to see how that'll happen. In nice terms, she was shown and stated to be pretty incompetent despite being a 4th(now 5th) year, while in the games she's actually holding back.

I would assume the secondary Cadets will have bigger roles in later seasons and maybe get focused episodes.

This was mentioned in the QA with Eric, yes, but she's a special case because of the leak and the multiple tweets implying she'll have a proeminent role rather than B Team.

I know that they confirmed that the first 2 seasons are going to have 26 epsoides only in total and since season 1 has 12 that means that season 2 is going to have 14...I really wish that they would make more epsoides per season I want at least 20 for each season

Season 1 had a two-parter. S2 is still 13 episodes.

I've just watched the first episode of Academy and I have to say I'm dead impressed. I'll need to adjust to the voice actors, the grating theme song (because why go for something catchy when you can get a machine to generate pop lyrics for you?) and personalities, but I found very little objectively bad about it. I'm going to watch the rest of this season, and I hope the episodes that are supposed to have some kind of lesson do it in a better way than this one.

Rewatching the show in a calmer pace here for some wiki stuff. It's amazing how much I missed the first time around, and I feel it holds up better with subtitles since it's kinda hard to understand Glumshanks' quiet lines or Kaossandra's extremely fast talking.

Just on the first few episodes:

-Spyro snaps that Greeble's spine. You can hear the bone crunch after a series of dry 'thumps'.
-Completely forgot their picture in the kitchen. It makes the whole 'is the Academy high school or everything' more nebulous since it's unclear if the trio went to regular school or were there all their lives.
edit: actually, in 4, Stealth Elf makes a clear gesture when saying 'junior cadet' which means that there's a special case to enroll before the normal age.
-Jet-Vac talking about riding Spyro's rear never gets old, and now I clearly noticed the other lines cut him off as he's about to continue the double meaning. They knew it.
-Glumshanks completely sees through Golden Queen's plan and never speaks up, prime r/notmyjob material. In the same episode, he also talks about going to shiv someone who stole his food, and unlike the corkage fee line there's not a HINT of being said jokingly.

I am also rewatching Academy and I really hope that th exposition is severely DECREASED in Season 2. If I just watched a thing happen, I don't need it to be explained to me a few minutes later. I get that it's a kids show, but my god! More funnies, less explanations

I also find it pretty interesting that the battle scenes are really poor and slow (except for the Dreamcatcher fight and maybe the pilot since Kaos deflecting the attacks is a pretty cool sequence), but the "action" banter actually has pretty funny camerawork. The group arguing before fighting the Fire Viper especially is really fun to watch; shame they can't keep that coreography and fast pace elsewhere.

Another thing I didn't appreciate at the time is how consistent the scenery is. Yeah, reused locations up the wazoo(hopefully by S2 or S3 we'll have enough to get some variety, one of the TeamTO guys said elsewhere they really can only do a few per budget), but I love how the locations all work within the buildings instead of defying physics, or how you can tell the entire layout of the Team Spyro Home just from the scenes as it never changes for the sake of a joke or plot. Maybe bias as I watch a lot more 2D animation than CG, but I can't help but appreciate writing Wiki articles and being able to tell X stairway goes Y without them actually walking through it, since it matches up with other scenes.

Only places I can never tell are the thinking spot and the classroom. The first is justified since it seems to be constantly moving, but the classroom doesn't match up with a single tower in most of the shots.

Crossing fingers for Season 2 to fix both of those issues, because besides that, it's an AMAZING video game show adaptation.

It's a shame that most anyone has seen is the weird Crash scenes and they immediately assume it's crap regardless of the circumstance of that episode and the quality of the rest of the show

Well, it's associated with Skylanders :I At least the kids/parents are amazed at the quality and can hold it afloat, unlike the games where they're the first to leave.

As much as I love The Hole Truth, why the hell did Wolfgang have his harp in the cell when it can CONTROL MINDS?! That's a huge oversight IMO

I like to think Wolfgang is more polite than we think.

The Golden Queen was also allowed to turn people to gold willy nilly without any of the guards actually doing anything about it, and there are several instances of prisoners attacking each other(not to mention Glumshanks' statement). I think Cloudcracker is supposed to be seedier and more lenient than it looks but since that's not the goal of the plot they never go into it :I Would be interesting to see an episode, at least in a subtle way as to not be noticed by children, show that Snap Shot lets them attack each other over the guards, since his character as a whole is about being too jaded over decades of villain invasions.


Actually the whole Great War thing should probably be explained really soon into S2. The show brings up far too often that things were going to **** before the Academy and that the Trap Masters/Senseis were around at the time, but never quite goes into detail.

Man, I love Eric and the guys, but... I want another Academy leak like last time. Just something new to hold me over. Those leaked clips sure were weird out of context.

I was the one that discovered it, so I was weirded out and spent the next 6 hours convinced I was high, and I'd wake up to see actual show footage eventually.

Leaks would be nice but I don't see much of that from second seasons on Netflix, we got lucky with Tisdale's picture. Thankfully dubbing and subbing should be faster and we'll see a trailer sometime soon, since Eric already knows the release date. They could also release sneak peek clips(we already have one of the first episode I believe, in Mon Amiibo's channel), but not sure how much Acti wants Cynder's reveal under wraps.

They've already said quite some times about Cynder's presence, so I feel they would bring a lot of attention to her in trailers, sneak peeks, or something else. After all, introducing a new character is a popular way of trying to keep a show relevant, from a marketing perspective.

On today's rewatch session, Bobcat Goldthwait seems to mind the rating so much he says "those are some trippy marshmallows" like this is a kid appropriate reference - and the next frame is the characters looking behind them with the most stoned faces they can make. I love it.

Also, man, Anger Mismanagement is still my favorite, maybe more than Dream Girls. Master Eon and Eruptor's VA performances really sell it, and the show just rolls with the humor and character interactions where it's at best with just a bit of plot peppered around, pun unintended.

I guess because it isn't a new show, they wouldn't show as much, but that's just my impression from the few news I follow from shows. Generally they show more when it's an all-new show.
