Keep at it and you'll do well!

I could run 1 mile in 7 minutes in my young teenage years when I trained recreationally.

I ran a mile, too. My time was 12:12, and on the second half of the second lap, I felt like thoiwing up.

I am proud of you, soldier. *^*7

wait that's basically walking i'm pretty sure

i can run it less than 5:30 and that's only a decent time

you should keep trying until you hit 8 minutes cause thats a pretty standard pace and you're probably in pretty good shape if you can manage to do that

When I was your age I too had to run the mile. My time was about 9 minutes, I think.

EDIT: I've read what other people are saying about their times and now I feel unaccomplished compared to all of you. smilie

I'll have you know that I had a leg transplant with an ostrich. Try 30 miles with that.

Hicham El Guerrouj is the current men's record holder with his time of 3:43.13, while Svetlana Masterkova has the women's record of 4:12.56.
somehow I doubt you can run a mile in 5:30 just over a minute of a record, I mean that's more than decent it's nearly a world record, but iunno maybe im wrong

I actually begrudgingly enjoy running, after I have gotten back into a workout routine and my body has gotten used to it. Nothing worse than the first couple days, though. It feels like I can only go a few steps before I run out of oxygen. It's like my body needs to relearn how to breathe.

Still, I've never been able to hammer out a very good pace, even after I've gotten back into it. I can keep an 8-minute-mile pace for 10 miles, but I can't run a 6 minute mile to save my life. Weird. I think my body just got used to a specific pace, since I'd usually allot myself a half-hour for my workout, and because I never really tried to drop my pace for just one mile, I never got the muscle memory for it.

Last time I ran a mile it took me a little under 7 minutes. I don't remember the exact time.

I tend to favor biking over running as a form of exercise, though.

Don't pay attention the the miles, pay attention to the time you keep constantly running. In the height of my running season a handful of years ago (when I still could find fitting running shoes) I used to run 45 - 60 minute runs in constant running pace. But the sign that you are starting to get serious about improving your fitness is already a great sign and you should keep patient and calm improvement-oriented view on things. All the best and good luck!
