So Episode 4 of The Walking Dead: A New Frontier released... spoilers like always:
Probably the best episode yet, though that's not saying a lot. They did fix some issues with the series so far. Some are still prevalent, like the misleading dialogue but they did fix some other ones to an extent. First and foremost, the character development and story arcs actually go somewhere in this episode. I found myself actually having a difficult time who to side with and which dialogue options to choose. Javier is becoming a much more interesting character with each passing episode, from the brief flashbacks of his past every now and then to now when he's trying to control Gabe in this situation or when he and Kate talk about their feelings with one another. There are a few things that fall short, like the whole story arc with Tripp and Eleanor, which goes nowhere, Conrad is just kind of there, and Ava is just kind of there. The choices in this episode are also pretty good. The last two in particular I had a really hard time deciding what to choose. The pacing issues I had with the previous episodes are still here though. The episode goes by way too fast and is pretty short, and still feels kind of rushed. There was never a moment in this episode where I could just catch my breath and talk with the characters honestly like the first season, or a moment where I could quite literally just stop for a moment like in Season Two. Clementine has a much better role in this episode, which I applaud. She's the best part of this episode and continues to be the best part of the whole season. She actually gets involved in this episode, such as helping Javi with an injury or when she interacts with Gabe(which, side note, I honestly think is really forced and I don't entirely like it, but I at least like that we can see Clementine actually act like a real kid in these parts). Though again, one of my biggest problems with this season is that she's only a side character in all of this. After all we've went through with her in the first two seasons, it's disappointing that we only get small glimpses of what happened to her in her past between this and S2. And though she has a much bigger role in this episode, she doesn't impact the overall story a whole lot. Taking her out of the story would not affect it that much. Overall this episode was decent. Not great, but also not bad. I can only hope Episode 5 ends the season with a bang, because this season has been less than stellar up to this point, and it sucks that it took four episodes for me to feel like I was actually experiencing a Walking Dead game.

That depends on your idea of Samus before getting the game. That said, iirc from discussions, the biggest problem was with the plot and everything to do with Ridley and her boss(and a bunch about the final boss), so it might be later on. I don't think anyone has a problem with its gameplay, except that maybe it adds nothing new to the table.

I was discussing movies with my friend today. I told her my favourite movie was The Incredibles. She said it was a really bad movie because the animation was terrible.
So basically, the equivalant to judging the Mona Lisa for it's gameplay.

Well, animation CAN be a turnoff, but at the time The Incredibles was pretty amazing. Even today, it's hardly something that affects the rest of the movie, it's just kinda dated.
Now Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs... No matter how polished and pretty it looks, the animation style makes me unable to see it for more than 5 minutes. I can't deal with that level of twitchiness and erratic movement outside of shorts.

I mean, Incredibles looks dated for sure, not horrible by any means. It still looks great, but compared to Inside Out, Zootopia, Kung Fu Panda 3, and even the upcoming Captain Underpants movie, it can't hold a candle. The new Captain Underpants movie animation alone looks absolutely incredible. It's known that Disney, Pixar and Dreamworks are always experimenting with animation technology and advancements are guaranteed. Hell, someday, the movies I mentioned above may look outdated with Incredibles looking like trash.

3D animation gets dated a bit faster. 2D stuff from the 90's and even below looks great to this day, but 3D stuff from the early 2000's already look kinda dated. I guess that's the cost of making a more complex type of animation.

I agree, the animation is dated and isn't as great as other modern movies. Like, look at this movie with great visuals:
I lied In all seriousness though, we can agree that stuff like Inside Out have much better visuals, but The Incredibles is still decent.

In response to the 3D animation stuff, it's definitely worth noting that Dreamworks and Pixar have their own in house developed software that isn't available in a commercial form for anyone outside the company. This allows Pixar in particular to go cutting edge with technology and lead to more photorealistic and detailed animations like Piper (which absolutely serves as a proof of concept and will probably show up in a feature by 2020).
Disney also tries to develop certain techniques for their studio. That said to my knowledge they (and all other studios, including many game developers) use Maya, so evolution on their fronts will only go as far as Autodesk does (though each studio may have their own rendering software? Hm). |
