Yeah, most likely the second option, especially since I recently played the HD remaster. smilie
In fact, after listening to the track again and comparing it to Day of the Tentacle's I have to admit they basically just share a very small part; but is it evocative!

I would think it would definitely be possible, Day of the Tentacle would be a perfect nod to MoodyMaze Marsh boss of the level, and Grant Kirkhope is known to take themes, the Beta theme of Mumbo's Mountain was based off The Baby Elephant Walk:

(you can still here the theme in the anthill of Mumbo's Mountain)

______

Altho, whyle I understand what you mean, listening to Day of the Tentacle more reminds me of something in the Psychonauts OST

It would definitely be a nice reference.

And, man, listening to those tracks really makes me wish I could play Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie.
Yooka-Laylee only gave me a taste of Rare's style, and it felt so different yet so great compared to the other 3D platforms I got to play.

I'll definitely have to try out Psychonauts as well, but at least I can pick it up from the PlayStation Store.

Yeah, Kartos's rides were probably the most frustrating part for me as well, especially the one in the third world.
I appreciated them though, they reminded me about the flight challenges in the first three Spyro games, and how I was absolutely incapable to complete them when I was a kid.

Other than that, my major struggles were the Gloomy Gem Grotto in world two, a ring challenge in the last part of Hivory Towers and the last Rextro minigame (even though I love that buddy).
And the final boss, of course; definitely don't recommend to face him until you have collected at least 4/5 Power Extenders.

That boss for the casino level is the only good boss so far, and was the only redeemable factor about the casino level for me. **** the Kartos mini-game right before him, though.

I'm a little scared, though, because I think I somehow activated the pagie glitch in the level and I really don't want to play through the whole game again. ;;

Oh, man, that level was hard.

I got to a point where I had the final 9 Casino Chips and it took me ages to find both the last one and
the Pirate Treasure.

Kartos' ride was challenging, but nothing compared to the one in Moodymaze Marsh.

I don't necessarily find the overall level hard, just unappealing. It's the most boring and tedious of the levels, imo.
I still haven't finished it, though, 'cause I have to do that wind pinball-ish mini-game (I hate it) and a few other things. Well, that, and I'm scared that I activated/will activate that pagie glitch. ;;

And I didn't have as much trouble with that Kartos ride, surprisingly enough. It's easier to get the gems since there's more paths, imo.

Also, did anyone else notice that I.N.E.P.T called Laylee a "purple dragon" when you defeat him? lol I wonder if that has to do with the fact that you're collecting gems in the mini-game prior and because you can glide in the game.

I appreciated the fact it tried to provide something different, but I would have greately preferred something more along the lines of Triblestack Tropics or Glitterglaze Glacier.

Well, I meant "challenging" on a positive way: you have to stay focused but it's not as punitive as the previous challenge, which I almost felt as frustrating.
I didn't have any problem with the pinball mini-games, basically remained still and let the balls fall in the middle; as for the glitch, I didn't even knew it existed and I traded like 50 Coins at once. smilie

I agree on that Spyro reference, and I think I found another one to Croc when Capital B says he once held captive a reptile with sharp teeth and a passion for crystals, or something like that.

So it was really a reference to him, how cool!
At first I though about Spyro again, but it seemed weird they used "crystals" instead of "gems".

Kartos has the same problem that Donkey Kong Country Returns had for me in that I expected it to control just like DKC and it took a while to get used to the differences.

I think this has to be the most balanced review I've seen for the game (aside from Caddicarus, maybe). It doesn't just outright bash the game like Jim Sterling but it's not blinded by nostalgia like Jirard the Completionist either.
Though I'm mainly posting this here because I like Arlo and think he could use some more recognition.

Got this on Sunday and I am really enjoying it. Each world I have played through so far has been very open and had a lot of things to discover. Going through a world and enjoying some of the spectacular views it has to offerr while collecting Pagies is extremely fun and I can tell that a lot of work and imagination was put in to it. I really look forward to bumping to characters like Trouser and Rextro for the tons of witty lines they come out with, and I'm expecting to snigger to a few more as I play through the rest of the game. I find that the camera can be awkward sometimes, like when it doesn't go around a big object when I'm standing near it but apart from that it is decent. From what I have seen so far I give this game an 8 out of 10.

they'd have to remake the game to fix all its problems, ie the emptiness of the casino level, the overall lack of originality from banjo kazooie to yooka laylee etc
there's a lot of issues people have that would need to be completely reworked and new assets that would need to be added etc

Is this game really all that bad? Banjo fans say they got what they wanted, and a lot of people really do like this game. There seems to be three type of people.

1: The ones who say they got exactly what they wanted and love the game regardless of flaws.
2: The ones who like it but see the flaws the game has.
3: The ones who don't and feel the need to force their opinion onto others.

And seriously, if I can PROVE that bias against games staring non-humans is absolutely a thing, will you guys stop being ***es toward me?

Yooka-Laylee is in a unique place I feel. Because the people who love it seem to love it because it's just like Banjo-Kazooie. Whereas the people who hate it hate it... because it's just like Banjo-Kazooie.

And honestly, I think that is the biggest problem with most of these Kickstarter-funded spiritual successors. They're specifically marketed to the nostalgic fans of the thing they're a successor to, but they don't realize "Oh, hey, it's been decades since these games came out and times have changed. Maybe we should do things to make the game more accessible to the general public and not just people who would get nostalgia boners from this." Though granted, at least some people are satisfied with this game, unlike the total train wreck that was Mighty No. 9. But with that said, Banjo-Kazooie is a good game, don't get me wrong, but it hasn't really aged all that well. So the fact that it has some of the same issues as Banjo-Kazooie kinda makes the game feel outdated.

I mean, take Shovel Knight for example. Yeah, it's obviously inspired by games like Mega Man and Ducktales... But it's not trying to 100% be a new Mega Man or Ducktales. It does things to refine the game for today's standards and also tries to be it's own thing with it's own identity other than just doing the same thing these games did years ago. Heck, even Undertale was basically Earthbound 2.0 but it still did it's own thing.

And Mugo, seriously, flip off with your animal bias bull. Yes, I agree humans are jerks to animals, but I can guarantee you that if you replaced every character in Yooka-Laylee with humans, the contractors would still have the same issues as they do with the game as is. In fact, I'd argue they'd probably have even more issues with it because you'd be replacing the game's more memorable designs with generic human beings.

@Mugo- I'm in category number two, Yooka-Laylee is a good game, but it does have it's share of problems, but I've got hope that patches, additional features, and DLC will bring the game to a better status.

Pls, let's not start another argument. I'm warning you, you're only starting an unnecessary drama, and I don't want to see more hostility directed at you and arguments on the forum again.

@AdamGregory I feel like Yooka-Laylee was never pitched to be the 3D Shovel Knight, and that is perfectly fine, but I completely understand the sentiments expressed by you and others. Yooka-Laylee was the "Rare-vival" that it lived up to be: an colorful N64 inspired 3D Platformer that is brought into the market of Witcher 3, GTA and Call of Duty. That obviously has it's share of problems that needs to be addressed and better improved with a future sequel. So people offering constructive criticism in a calm, appropriate manner are appreciated by me. Those who ***** and crap on the very idea that it has the audacity be a 3D Platformer collect-a-thon and is a dead genre, and those who use foul language and shame people for liking Yooka-Laylee, not so much. This isn't directed at an anyone of this forum, mind you- just people I see on reddit, etc.

Speaking of a 3D Shovel Knight, Yacht Club has shown interest, so there's that! If I actually see a 3D Platforming Shovel Knight, lord knows how excited I'll be!

You can't prove what doesn't exist.

People dislike the game because there is legitimate problems with it, not because the main characters are animals. If there are people like that, they've already lost all credibility and aren't worth taking seriously.

But it absolutely does exist.

Mark my words. One day, I'm going to prove it, and you guys are going to feel like idiots when I do.

I'll feel like I could've found that out by myself and have had any interest in such a controvery, instead of having someone rage about it before it's ever a problem. Conspiracy theorists make it even worse when the theory is true because of how pretentious they can make it, and then no one takes it seriously.

I don't think they planned for any DLC, just the soundtrack and the rap which iirc are in the game already.

I meant that with the costs covered, Playtonic only had more to gain, excluding the usual funding issues any indie game has. It probably sold just ok.

Just because many people had high hopes which caused the devs to get a lot of money on the kickstarter doesn't mean the game is great. :l it had a pretty bad score, many people dislike it and i can see why. (and yes, i played and finished the game)

Also how is it already a bump after less than two months of inactivity, this section is kind of dead anyway.
