Pete's Dragon (2016). Received it as a Christmas present, didn't get to watching it until last night. One of the better Disney remakes. Makes me want to seek out the original. Whoever has an obsession with dragons will have to see this film.

^ Yes. KND is a good show!

Moana - Beautifully animated, wonderful voice acting and OH DEAR GOD THE SONGS ARE SUBLIIIIIME!

But, **** me is it cliche. Like, I get this is the safe Disney movie formula that you gotta follow, but idk, can you at least try to mix it up? Even Frozen mixed it up a bit when it came to plot! The overuse of typical kid's movie cliches kinda annoyed me. Also, not every movie has to be a comedy. Stop trying to randomly insert jokes for no reason that don't work.

Pretty average, but I feel like it could've been way less average... 7/10

The Lego Movie

MMMMMMMMM! 'S GOOD!!!

I remember watching this in theaters and loving it, now I watched it at home and loved it even more. For every joke that is clearly aimed at kids, there's about 5-6 more that appeals to the older demographics. It is such a funny movie. Also, the way they mimic stop motion through CG is simply sublime! It is one of the best, if not THE BEST, kid's movie of all time. Let's hope that Lego Batman Movie pulls out all the stops as well

Angry Birds

It started off alright but the humor fell off a cliff when the pigs showed up and it never fully recovered. One or two decent jokes (mostly from yellow bird) but Red constantly trying to make quips after every event got annoying especially with how it was never funny. And when the pigs came around the film rested heavily on fat and butt jokes which really felt disappointing (though not surprising).

It's not awful or nearly as bad as some people like to say it is. And it won't offend or be harmful in the same way Food Fight or Norm of the North would be. But at the same time there's many better animated films that came out last year alone. I don't really see any justifiable reason to pick this one over any others outside of being a big fan of the games.

I'm not really sure how to score this. On the one hand it's mostly just a mediocre animated romp that would be worthy of a 5. But at the same time I get the feeling I'll dislike this a lot more if I watch it again.

I'll say 4.5. It's both the best and worst video game movie I've ever seen.*

If we're talking movies about or influenced by video games, then Wreck it Ralph and Tron would count. But if we're talking about video game adaptations, as in films that are based strictly on a single game/franchise, then Wreck it Ralph isn't on that list, and doesn't count.

The highest rated video game adaptation, as per Rotten Tomatoes, is still Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within (with Angry Birds an extremely close runner up).
EDIT: If you use Metacritic, the highest rated is Mortal Kombat.

Sad that the best rated video game adaptations are considered mostly half-baked films.

I think things are different on TV series, but not by much.

Wasn't it Prince of Persia: Sands of Time at some point? Though its changes might as well make it an influcence of the series and not an adaptation.

Oh man almost forgot I watched Ant Man.

Pretty funny and entertaining, but the villain is even more terrible and impossibly competent than usual, and it's really formulaic so I don't recommend watching straight after... Any other Marvel movie, really. Give yourself some time to forget the obvious jokes.

It's the 2nd highest rated on Metacritic, and 3rd highest on RT.

It's up there, though in both cases the top film that beats it came out before it.

Harry and Tonto

The ending was very abrupt, but I suppose since it's a movie showing that an old man can come of age again, accepting loss/death and beginning anew, It somewhat fits.

But the scene just before that genuinely made me cry. Having an old cat myself, it really hits close to home. :'(

The Lego Batman Movie

It's not as good as The Lego Movie, but that movie was perfection, so it's too be expected. That being said, Will Arnett KILLS IT as Batman in this film. I was constantly laughing at something in this movie. It was incredibly well made!

Moana

Oh finally I saw it. Pretty good. Aside from the obvious fact that the visuals are amazing, the story was satisfying to go trough, the characters were charming and interesting (I got quite surprised on the very start). While I'm not a fan of musicals, I enjoyed the songs, mainly the comedic ones, and their smaller number made then even better. The instrumental soundtrack was pleasing, and the lore was interesting. Sadly, the movie is not that strong on comedy, but the jokes didn't bothered me, and some of then added to the charm of the characters, so it's okay.

Overall, I really liked it.

It made me remember of Disney Infinity. The Play Set based on this movie seemed promissing.

Split

The trailer and beginning of this movie made me go in with very low expectations, but once it got going, BOY WAS I ENTERTAINED! This movie does something very interesting in that it really humanizes the villain. I think that's incredibly smart and it's honestly the best parts of the movie. I thought I'd hate it more than I did, so I'm glad it blew my expectations out of the water.

Seriously, this movie defines Idiot Plot. Literally hinges on everyone being stupid, impratical, unrealistic or all three. Which is a shame, because up until the moment the ghetto appears the plot is decent.

I remember liking the concept of that movie when it came out, so much so that I was, in hindsight, way too forgiving of its many faults. And then I forgot it existed until I saw this post. Lot of wasted potential in this movie.

Holy ****! That was intense and dark and weird... I kinda liked it! It's not perfect, but it's a good jumping off point into this universe and story. I'm definitely picking up the graphic novel soon because I enjoyed the movie so much.

It's always a fine line with these types of gritty superhero flicks between smart and hilariously pretentious. I think Watchmen is somewhere in between, but I still like it a lot.

I've seen a handful of movies over the past few months so i'll just post my thoughts on all of them:

The Lego Batman Movie- Great. I haven't laughed this much at a film in quite a while. Probably as good as The Lego Movie. 8/10

Logan- Phenomenal. One of the best superhero movies I've ever seen. I can't really think of anything that I found wrong with this movie without nitpicking. 10/10

The Shack- Alright. There are issues with the writing and it does get cliche at times, but it's well acted. Definitely much better than most religious movies out nowadays. 6/10

Kong: Skull Island- Awesome. It has story and pacing issues but it's just so much fun. It's quite over the top and it never takes itself too seriously. 8/10

Beauty and the Beast 2017- Amazing. Honestly think I like it a bit more than the original film. 8/10

Power Rangers- Decent. It's a basic superhero movie, but it's well acted and charismatic. Also one of the best and most intense movie theater experiences I've ever had. People were flipping out in the theater during the last act. 7/10

Wolf Children.

I have never seen a film that looks that good before. The art style was simply amazing.
Ranma 1/2, Hellsing OVA and Akira do not have the same feel that this film does. (Duh! they different things!) you may say, but I don't mean it like that. The characters are more human in that than I have seen in most things, despite y'know, three of the characters being different.

Wow, I wrote this like I needed to get it out of my system or something.
