Ayy I'm a little late to all of this but if you actually think Trump is trying to ban abortions then you obviously haven't read anything about what is going on rn. Trump wants to defund Planned Parenthood. What does this mean for abortions? Well it means that they are still legal, women cans till get abortions, but taxpayers will no longer be paying for them. It's illegal for taxpayer money to fund abortions but the government has been illegally allowing this to happen by funding Planned Parenthood and indirectly paying for abortions. Trump doesn't want to make abortions illegal, he just doesn't support them. I don't want to make abortions illegal but I also don't support them, so I'm glad my money isn't going to be used to fund them anymore.
As a woman, there is no war on women. These protesters are bandwagon babies who don't understand how the real world works. I couldn't have gone to the march even if I wanted to because I have a job, and responsibilities. (': Trump's first executive order has helped people. He has taken away the incredibly large fine set it place by Obama that forced people to get healthcare. You're not going to hear praise for that though, because that doesn't fit the narrative that Trump doesn't care about non white poor people. |

Doesn't Planned Parenthood help a lot more with treatments and diagonists than abortions, though?
Again, non-US person, just talking off of what I read on the internet.

They do, and it's great that they do. But Planned Parenthood gets a lot of money from private funding, over half of the money that they make comes from private funding and miscellaneous donations. Trump just wants to stop funding them and instead put that money towards other organizations that provide these things for women without also providing abortions, so that way no laws are being broken. |

A lot of people are asking what even is the point of these marches, and I asked myself that as well before, but I think I'm starting to get it.
While a lot of people will probably tell you it's because Trump is a woman-hating dictator, I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and think that's not why. But that it's dissatisfaction with the government as a whole (including the much more nefarious Pence) and a demonstration that shows they will not take future acts lying down. That if they try to cross the line people won't just blindly accept it. And it also demonstrates to the world that the US is NOT happy with who their president is. All too often it's easy for foreigners to regard Americans as overly patriotic, xenophobic/racist, conservative, and just downright stupid (which was even easier to throw the accusation of when our president was W.). It's easy for the world to look at our election results and feel that we willingly selected Trump because he is a representation of what America strives to be. These marches send a message that it's absolutely not the case and it's not what we want to be, and we will fight any of the more aggressive acts he or others try to push through. At least, that's what I want to think. Quote: Bumblebunnii
You mention they're privately funded but wouldn't defunding Planned Parenthood lead to massively higher costs for their services? Costs that many people may not be able to afford? This area goes back to the age old discussion of health care, which I also think government should be stepping in to help cover the costs for (because god knows if I get into a freak accident and lose my arm, my family won't be able to afford the medical bills that'd be shafted to me). Additionally, leaving abortion rights up to the states can be damaging, as don't some states employ horribly manipulative and almost abusive tactics to guilt women into the already difficult decision they're making? |

Those claiming to be pro-life should be 100% pro-life as in stopping fetuses from being aborted, allowing children to be vaccinated and save the environment to the make planet livable for children but that will never happen.
TRUMP SUPPORTER: STOP KILLING BABIES! SAME TRUMP SUPPORTER: I RATHER MY CHILDREN DIE THAN BECAUSE I THINK VACCINES MAKE THEM AUTISTIC AND HAVING TO LOOK AFTER THEM MORE OFTEN IS TOO HARD! P.S. Trump planning a nationwide manhunt for people in states that didn't vote for him (despite winning the campaign anyway) is pretty much what a dictator does.

Whenever you use a sad, petty gif, you only hurt your own cause. Also, yes, he is actually doing a "manhunt" in that he is going through the major blue states to look for voter fraud. Ah voter fraud, something less likely than a shark attack in a place like Florida. And the fact that he's only going to the big blue states and not anywhere else is especially telling. He wasn't going to win there anyway, why bother? Not to mention the fact that keeping up the voter fraud thing when you won is really pathetic. As well as the fact that GOP is The entire GOP has done some attrocious things recently. Trying to cut the Endowment for the Arts, silencing the EPA and the National Parks. Trying to gerrymander the electoral college in Jersey. Making an actual border wall which will cost billions, cutting immigration from Iran, which is an ally and a place where literally no terrorists have come from. He also signed that people can come to the country if they're religiously persecuted, but only if they're the minority in the area. Just another concession towards Christianity that doesn't need to be made in the first place. Allow everyone or no one, don't make an exception just for the people you like. Christianity has already ruined much of the government in our country, what with the sad, pathetic evangelicals trying to hurt my beautiful people. Actually wake up instead of white knighting him.

I think I could go back a few hundred pages and find the DS threads where people were going "yeah he made these dumb proposals but politicians don't ever do half of the stuff they say they will, chill'.
The one time someone in power delivers it's for that wall(+ a ton of other crazy proposals) in just a few days. The one time it would have been better to just forget about it.

Yeah... it's amazing what one can do as POTUS in a few short days when he or she has majorities in both houses of Congress, 33 of the 50 state governors' seats, and a currently 4-4 deadlocked Supreme Court (but one which will soon favor conservatism anyway). Which just makes it all the more unbelievable. Trump and "his" party control the feds and most local governments and it's going to stay that way until at least 2018. So they could afford to take the time to make more detailed plans for their crazy ideas and even get them passed into actual laws (as opposed to executive orders which only binds governmental employees). But Trump's an impatient man, so he is (quite ironically) going the executive order route after he bashed Obama for using them during the second half of his term. Luckily for everyone in DC, recall elections don't exist at the federal level. <.<

You're misinterpreting. I don't mean "all humans are evil," I mean that as a species that populates the earth, we've been probably the single most destructive force toward the planet that's sustaining our lives since the meteors (or the flood in the times of Noah, if you'd prefer). And the good that we do tends to get overshadowed by the bad. But it's whatever. Folks said I was going overboard when I said Trump will win back in late 2015 and they laughed when I then bet on him to win come September. Perhaps I'm averse to the idea because I don't want to ****ing die? People who hate humanity and want a mass extinction event to come about and "wipe out the stupid people" seem to often forget that they will be included in the event and will be killed instantly. That no matter how much they want to smugly act it, they are not above the rest of humanity. That eruption happens, the after effects will choke my city and kill me with it. And I'm sorry but I'm not quite depressed enough to be perfectly satisfied with dying just so I can fulfill a fantasy where all the others come with me. There is no point in wishing a mass extinction for a "better world" that you will never get to see. Humanity and the future can be a beautiful thing that is capable of wonderful things. It's just the unfortunate circumstances that those in power become corrupt and greedy, and put forth actions that the general populous may not want, manipulating them into hating people they're told to be afraid of and so forth. |

I thought it was a joke,but ok.
But the way humanity is putting the world in, we might go happily, but the next generation is gonna suffer a fair bit because it's almost too late to change the scale of destruction. That's not bringing into account the rest of life on Earth and how much irreplaceable **** is going to die before anyone can do anything about it.

I don't undertstand the notion that humans are any worse than anything else that can potentially damage the planet. Surely we're better than, say, if the planet exploded or was completely obliterated by space debris or whatever. And we're ultimately the planet's best chance at surviving such a catastrophe, so it's in the planet's best interest to keep us around.
