The Legend of Tarzan- pretty bad, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I had some enjoyment and fun. Outside the sense of fun and adventure there really isn't much substance in the movie. That's probably what they were going for, just some mindless fun, but it's just that- mindless fun. Because outside the fun action sequences and some surprisingly good acting there isn't much to enjoy here, especially in terms of story and writing. Probably going to be one of my guilty pleasure movies. 4/10
Ghostbusters 2016- Man... That wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, but man it was really bad. I did smirk on a number of occasions, but I can only count on one hand how many times I actually chuckled out loud. And even then it wasn't gut-busting laughter, just a quick "ha!". I did actually like Kate McKinnon's character a little bit, and Chris Hemsworth's. But aside from that, there is nothing to this movie. bad writing, bad jokes, Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy do the exact same performances they always do in their films, Leslie Jones' character is painfully stereotyped(In a movie that's "progressive," no less), horrible effects, absence of any real ghostbusting, and what might have beforehand been the most abysmal marketing I have ever seen for a film. 2/10

Mortal Kombat Annihilation... HOO BOY!
Where do I start? First of all, I never saw the first one. In fact, I was searching for the first one on Netflix and when I stumbled across this one I just had to see how terrible it was. OH MY GOD! This movie is the pinnacle of everything inherently wrong with adapting video games into movies. They try and cram in so many goddamn characters through cameos and none of them work at all. They just appear and disappear adding nothing to the "plot" and being generally useless. Shao Kahn is the worst antagonist I have ever seen in a movie. He's just so pissy and not intimidating. Plus he takes his awesome skull mask off all the freaking time making him even more pathetic! Sindel is goofy ass character that has some serious mental issues. The protagonists do virtually nothing through the entire film. Nothing happens between the beginning and end of the film! NOTHING!! Also, the effects look worse than Transformer Beast Wars. The costume and makeup work is no better. Don't even get me started on the acting! 2/10 A cheesy schlock-fest of epic proportions! |

Whilst not exactly a movie/film. It was a short.
In particular, DreamWorks' Dragons: Dawn of the Dragon Racers. I'm falling in love with the How To Train Your Dragon Franchise again.

Suicide Squad- It was alright. It's the direction DC needs to go with their cinematic universe, but they still have a long way to go. (potential spoilers below)
The characters, for the most part, are great. Deadshot and Harley Quinn in particular stole every scene they were in, and Will Smith and Margot Robbie did excellent as them. Honestly I'd say they're my new favorite DC villains now. Jared Leto as The Joker was alright. He has a lot of potential wasted in this movie but the scenes he was in were really good. Viola Davis as Amanda Waller was great as well. Every other character is unfortunately not that great though. El Diablo was alright but didn't get a lot of screen time or character, even with his backstory presented. Captain Boomerang wasn't that great either and didn't really do a whole lot in the story. Killer Croc, Katana, and Slipknot shouldn't have even been in the movie at all because they do absolutely nothing. And Enchantress is a cool villain, but they also wasted a lot of potential with her. Every scene with her doesn't really have that emotional weight you want it to have. Same goes for Rick Flag. Aside from that, there were some good action sequences, the humor in the movie was really good, and there were some great character scenes such as the bar scene or the flashbacks with Joker and Harley Quinn, but Suicide Squad's biggest problem is its plot and direction. Between the insanely choppy editing, the no-nonsense and dumb story, and the poor direction, it's really hard to enjoy the movie outside its few standout characters. And the mid-credits scene isn't that great either. As I said, Suicide Squad is a step in the right direction. It really gets a lot of things perfect, such as Deadshot, Harley Quinn, the more lighthearted tone, and less convoluted story. but every other character is just as much of a wasted potential as this story and writing. If I can give it any praise, this is at least the best film in the DCEU so far, but it still leaves a lot to be desired. 5/10.

Suicide Squad
I don't get the hate personally. I thought it was fun as hell! All the characters no matter how minor their roles got at least some good scenes and were generally enjoyable. Deadshot is clearly the most fleshed out of the Squad, but Captain Boomerang and Harley were my personal favorites. I also LOVED the visual style. Although, I have to say... WAIT FOR THE EXTENDED CUT!!! Joker was SEVERELY cut short in the Theatrical Cut and the editing was a bit trash in places. I hope an Extended Cut fixes this. 7/10 |

SUICIDE SQUAD AND I LOVED IT though saying that I do wish some of the characters had been more fleshed out and it did feel rushed in some ways, but literally the only criticisms from me are that there wasn't more of it so yeah.

Jungle Book 2016. A rare occasion in which funny youtube videos got me interested, because reviewers had some weird beef with it. Went with low expectations, was pretty amazed at how everything worked right even if a little simple - god plot, doesn't waste too much time with edge or humor, and sets up its twists very cleverly. Gives me hopes for the other remakes which I haven't even started watching.
Spoiler talk: I love how well written Mowgli is. Was fully expecting him to be whiny or just a plot device to move the plot, but he's actually a well behaved kid that starts to get encouraged the other way but gets no more stupid because of it. He immediately notices that Shere Khan must know him, and when he finds out about Akela's death, it's not dumb revenge, it's "everyone is going to stand around and be too afraid to take action" that makes him finally go against everyone's orders. Also Akela gets record time for disney villain death and he isn't even a villain. The camera barely catches up when he gets bitten and whoops not even a few frames later he's already over the cliff

You can tell it was a Clint Eastwood film when Tom Hanks messed up putting the phone back on the receiver after finishing up a phone call. Eastwood is notorious for doing very few takes and sometimes even using rehearsals in the final cut. Pretty good movie either way. Not sure if better than Flight. |
