Yeah but the women being dumped would have to talk about the men and their relationship at some point. Even that is ruined.
Then again the test is supposed to be for stories where the female leads' drive for plot isn't a relationship, leave it to tumblrinas to turn it into the "good for feminism" test.

The test is flawed and excludes a lot of good movies with strong female characters, going against its purpose.

But at the same time it is kinda dumb if you have a single female character and force her into a love story with the male protagonist even when it doesn't make logical sense to. It's a decade old now, but House's first season takes one of the only prominent female leads in the show and gives her a story arc where she's consistently pining for House's affection, convinced that he secretly loves her and is just trying to hide it by being snarky.

You have to admit something like that is sloppy regardless of the gender.

I might just be burned out on how most stories in film and TV throw romance into it even when there's no point.

Well, that's the purpose of the test; but people took it to a proportion that romance movies, whose ENTIRE PURPOSE is to make you root for the love story to go right, are suddenly mysoginist. Yes, there are movies within that genre that cross the line, but the genre by itself still has the right to be.

I saw Mortal Kombat Annihilation recently (I know) and I found out the hard way that people have a difficult time writing for black people. Jax is... a poorly written character to put it lightly.

It's what I like to call a "feelgood-solution". As long as people can find comfort in thinking that they're doing the right thing, it's all the same to them. They either don't care or are deluding themselves about the actual source of the problem.
