Let's be rational about this dude... I'm pretty sure that a vast majority of the people going to Olympics this year are going to make sure that they bring bug spray. Just sayin! Plus, it's not like it's AIDS or Ebola. The effects from Zika aren't as damaging as the previously mentioned diseases.

Ok just want to clear this up. Yeah, some people may not care, but this is still a big deal in many ways. It's about pride for your country. People cheering for theirs as they compete, and others honored just to have their country represented with at least 1 athlete. It's a chance for peace in an otherwise dark world full of fighting and sorrow. Where every country in the world can come together in one place and join hands as they try to compete against one another in sports. And if these athletes have any sense of honor, win or lose, they are likely going to shake each others hand at the end, regardless of home country. For the athletes while yes, winning a medal is the goal, for many it is an honor simply to have made it that far. So please, tell me more about these being a "bull**** sports competition that nobody gives a **** about".

As a Brazilian, I really hate the ****storm a-brewin' the Olympics are causing. We're already in a huge crisis and this only gets worse.
On the other hand, not only the comitee is apparently pretty corrupt,but the politicians here would've found another way to **** things up if they lost the nomination.

Also you're pretty behind; Zika already found its way into Florida, last time I heard on the news? I don't have a source but it was mentioned in TV a bit.

I'm not expert on politics and things like that, so I won't say anything about it. But I can say that the Olympic Games are pretty important as a whole. Even if it's not something good, yes, they are more important than this disease in particular.

I still think it was a really bad idea for Brazil to go and host both the World Cup and the Olympics back to back. It's risky and a loss of cash as it is to host one of those (Montreal is still hurting 40 years after their Olympics).

The Olympics have been a pioneer in peaceful and friendly competition for literally millennia, and have been a driving force for good despite the committee itself being a corrupt organization today. It shines light on the city and country hosting it (positive and negative) and shows us differing cultures from around the world in this increasingly connected and yet fractured world. Thousands of people train their entire lives and built up to the moment of being able to compete and get a gold medal not just for themselves but for their country. This and the World Cup are arguably the one time patriotism is a good thing.
For countries like the US and China it's really just a formality to get a medal and it just adds onto the pile of 100+ they get. But for smaller countries that don't usually get medals it's a huge national deal and a cause for celebration as that person or team gets cemented in history and honored.

I would disagree and argue with you if you said baseball or basketball or whatever were pointless sports (I don't think any sport is meaningless no matter how much angry nerds want to say they do). But to try and claim that the Olympics (or the World Cup) didn't matter is absolutely ridiculous and I'm sorry but I severely disagree on your belief.

These Olympics are building up to be a ****show no doubt, and there's a lot of danger and I don't fault anybody for wanting to keep their athletes away. And what happened to the Australian team is horrible. But it's not like they went there for no reason.

^To be fair Australia has been getting the short end of the stick here. A good couple of their athletes may be sick. Their housing burst into flames. And while they were outside dealing with the fire they got robbed.

Aside from Brazilians themselves, they have the biggest reason to be upset right now. These Olympics have been mishandled and shouldn't have been given to the same country that was going to host the World Cup.

Oh yeah, the stuff with the Australian team was a ****fest from both your side and ours. JUST before the news we had an interview with the mayor and she's PR talk in a nutshell, saying the issues with the apartments were "no big deal, we have these issues all the time in our houses right?", then cut to the list of complaints and we see stuff like exposed wiring, gas leaks, construction waste thrown into toilets... YEAH WE DO HAVE THESE ISSUES IN OUR HOUSES, BECAUSE CONSTRUCTION HERE IS ****, THAT IS NOT A GOOD THING.

i opened a loot box and as i did i said "please give me tracer"
i opened it and i got the purple tracer skin which is a duplicate for me so i guess the cosmos kinda delivered on my prayer but im still slightly peeved that it only half-answered it like a goddamn ****ty genie or something so thank you cosmos but also **** you cosmos

It's a Blizzard game. And on top of that, a Blizzard game akin to TF2 that has a competitive future.

10 years from now Overwatch 2 will come out and the servers for this game will still be up.

South Korea is actually a lot better from the north. It helps that US troops are/were stationed there. It's not going to be that bad.

Well that would be a solution if the everyone didn't push this as GREAT tourism opportunity and people still eat that up since they're corrupt themselves

Brazil is an emerging power on the world stage which is probably why they pushed to host it. My thing is that they should've either hosted just the Olympics or just the World Cup. Trying to host both back to back was suicide no matter how much money you have.

Also South Korea, which like said above is hosting the Winter Olympics, is pretty developed and good to host something like that.
The bigger concern is Bejing hosting the 2022 Winter Olympics, just 14 years after they hosted the Summer Olympics.

Man what's up with the Winter Olympics and picking dangerous areas to host lately? First Russia, now South Korea. Not that South Korea is bad, per say, but their immediate neighbor could really be a problem... especially depending on who gets elected in November.
