French president Francois Hollande has publicly condemned the murders as a terrorist attack. Police found firearms and explosives in the vehicle after killing the driver in a shootout.

The identity of the driver has not been publicly released, and no known terror group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Jesus Christ, just when I thought things were getting better, something like this happens.

We can't be afraid of the dark they live in though, that only makes them stronger.

That's what I'm saying. Taking away guns will not stop humans from killing each other, nor will it stop violence. We will always have some way to kill each other, we did before we had guns, and we will continue to do kill each other, even without a manmade tool of some kind.

I'm so sorry to hear about this senseless attack on more innocent people... My condolences to their families, and I hope the injured recover soon (including the people who witnessed such a terrible, traumatizing thing).

Unless you have the strength of Brock Lesnar and the accuracy of Hawkeye, it's a lot harder to kill someone from a distance with a knife or a baseball bat compared to a firearm.

You go into a crowd with a melee weapon and you'll probably get a couple people before others restrain and beat the **** out of you. You go into that same crowd with guns and you're going to get a lot more people, with others more likely to try and run away than attempt to stop you.

Taking away guns or more heavily restricting them doesn't stop killing, but it becomes a hell of a lot harder to do without them. Especially mass killings like this.

I see. All that came out within the minutes after I posted this. I didn't want to make assumptions.

My sister was there. But glad she is alright and wasnt one of the victims, i would've been heart broken if that happend. I can text her and ask how her trip was home again atleast.

Yeah, sure, maybe it'll reduce the number of deaths for things like muggings and murders, but when it comes to terror attacks, they'll always find a way.

They'll use homemade bombs. They'll drive trucks into crowds. They'll crash airplanes into buildings. It doesn't matter if they have guns or not, they'll weaponize whatever they need to kill the most people. If we want to get rid of things that kill people, then next we get rid of cigarettes. Those kill more people per year than guns, yet people use them anyway. Then you get rid of cars, so you don't text and drive. Then you get rid of dogs that aren't put on a leash. The cycle will keep going on and on in the name of "safety", until people resent the government for it.

Yes, but the **** does this have to do about the terrorist attack in France!? Why even bring it up? It came so out of no where that it's hard to be just a tiny bit offended by the post. That's like if I after the Orlando shooting was like,

I started typing up a response about gun control when really, gun control debates don't and shouldn't apply to terrorist attacks where, like Strider said, they're usually going to use other means anyway.

The debate on guns applies more to mass shootings. This wasn't a mass shooting.

Though... don't have much to say, except that my local news places have REALLY bought that the guy was totes a terrorist shut up french police, Globo knows better. They also were several hours behind the news but still had plenty of time to have 5 minutes' worth of shots of the bodies and people crying somehow.

Genuine question: Will there be Europeans who try to use this incident to push an anti-immigration agenda?

A close friend of mine was there too, and while my heart obviously goes out to all of the victims, I am so so thankful that he wasn't hurt.
