What's your opinion on gender? Is gender limited to Male and Female, or are there more than just two genders?

Also remember that things like this can be discussed respectfully, opinions are different from hate speech. I'm just curious about the general consensus of people on DS.

While I do agree that gender could be more of a spectrum than a binary system, I think it's becoming somewhat of a trend of social defiance among the younger crowd. Most gender nonconformists are teenagers and twentysomethings; very few of them are mentally mature adults. Therefore, I can't help but think that for most people, it's just a phase.

There is only two genders (Boi or Gurl) and there are only two sexualities (Homo or no-homo). Everything else is a preference.

It's actually quite a complex issue that I don't feel I am educated enough to have an opinion on, really.
I mean yes, I understand male/female genders but I also understand nonbinary, genderfluid, etc. It's just none of my business, I don't think, and I'd never judge someone for their gender identity.

Simplistic

Male and female.
Transgender is not a gender of its own, it's transition from one to the other.

Complex stuff, extremely simplified

There's a spectrum of femininity/masculinity, but that's separate from gender.
There are men who are more feminine than the average woman, but they're still men.
There are women who are more masculine than the average man, but they're still women.

Femininity and masculinity don't determine what your perceived gender is. There are masculine trans-women (XY) and feminine trans-men (XX), though this is not common. It's a complex issue, but while it breaks the barrier between the sexes, it does not introduce more genders.

And back to simple stuff

Agender is bollocks.
"Gender fluid" is equally if not more bollocks.
Non-gender stuff labeled as a gender (someone mentioned "glitch") is extremely bollocks.

And finally, specialized (ze/xe/"nounself"/whatever) anti-pronouns completely destroys the actual purpose of pronouns. Just stick to 'he/she' when you know the gender, or 'they' if you don't.

Trans-people have it hard enough without being associated with the "expanded universe" of gender.

Of course, none of this addresses people with genetic disorders (too many X and/or Y chromosomes), insensitivity to gender hormones or other medical issues like that.

More or less this... I do feel that there are some people who may not fall into the exact boy and girl and aren't even directly in-between like a hermaphrodite. But still, it does seem to be more a trend in the younger high school/college crowd that makes me wonder just how many are serious and how many are either going through a phase or just trying to be a special snowflake like the made up "genders" that tumblr spits out.

Sure, I may change my mind when more research has been done on the subject. But as it stands right now, trans-people acceptance is being unjustly hindered by the "expanded spectrum", and that hindrance is something I'm completely against.

I'm open to accept it (except the endless list of anti-pronouns), but as it stands, I see no proper basis for it. I'm just trans, and I don't make a fuss over it, so I don't have any personal experience with flip-flopping or being nothing at all, just seen a bunch of people trying to portray themselves as more special than they really are.

They aren't different enough to be "incomparable", actually. Both are extremely complicated, far more than most people are willing to accept/know.

If you were talking about things such as "glitch gender", then I would understand and agree 100%.
However, things such as agender and gender fluid are by no means an "unjust hindrance" to trans-people.
Plus, both make a lot of sense if you actually took the time to research them.

If someone identifies as the opposite gender because their brain is mapped that way, why can't the same be said about someone who doesn't identify as either gender?

Male, female, and neutral/neither (agender? gender neutral?).

I'm still not entirely certain on gender fluidity and I don't believe in there being more than those three options otherwise.

I'm probably taking it a bit too personal as well, and the hindrance part was just thrown out without context. (And admittedly, "unjust" was hyperbole.)

It's not a fault of agender/gender-fluid themselves, but rather... 'trans-hostile gender-binary conformists', I think might be the most accurate way of saying it, even if it's one of those really long stupid titles that no one likes XP

Those who attack trans-people for what they think it's like being a trans, when the thing they're attacking is actually descriptive of gender-fluid, NOT trans-people.

Gender is a very complicated spectrum, but the way most people look at it is the way you should be raised based on your biological sex (which I do not agree with).

I consider myself a demigirl but if someone lumps me into the "female" category I don't necessarily mind.

In my opinion, it's largely a spectrum, and I generally accept most genders, but genders like "flower gender" and "space gender" don't seem quite realistic to me, but if someone would show me some realistic examples, I might be swayed.

That being said, I have seen good examples of well rounded and realistic people who are genderfluid and agender, so I'm a firm believer in both of those.

There's two, only two, and there will only ever be two. Transgenderism (I think I just made up that term) is transferring from one to another. That's it. I know there's people that say they're gender neutral, but to me, they are fixed to the gender they were born as unless they become trans.
