I've considered making one for a long time, but there really was a drought of MAJOR Sonic news for a while so I never made one, as I felt there wouldn't be enough to talk about.

However, since the beginning of June, things have really started to pick up and we've gotten a lot of news. So even if this topic dies early on and people don't want to discuss anything, I figured I would post some news here to get people up to speed (...) on everything.

I'm so excited for the game announcement in July! (or is it this month?)

I used to like Sonic. I just don't have it in me anymore. To many disappointments, to many sudden gameplay changes. I think I like Sonic Adventure 2, and everything before that. Everything after that.... Well, I wanted Sonic Generations on Wii, but that didn't happen. And, I don't mind to much, Because thank god for Steam. And I heard Sonic Lost world was good.
But most of the time sonic games make me go:

Actually, I've played Sonic Colors. It's not bad at all, really. My only complaint was, I never expected Sonic voice like it was. Not really a complaint, more like- unexpected.

But yeah, at least Sonic Generations is on Steam.

And just so people are aware, Sonic Colours literally was originally a Wii port of Generations. That's why it randomly has a few Classic Sonic badniks like Motobugs and Buzzbombers. They scrapped the Wii port of Generations because they realised it would defeat the purpose of what Generations represents (old levels in HD, and the Wii can't do HD).

Oh, ok. The boost functions exactly the same between both games. And correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Sonic Generations take place excatly after Sonic Colors? If so, then it was neat what Sega did.

You know, I'm kind of surprised it took this long for Sonic to finally get Lego merchandise.

I can play as Finn the Human, Marty McFly, and Sonic in the same game now. What a time to be alive.

Quick question: Where would I go to see the 25th Anniversary Party online? Like, the stream page or such. I'm pretty excited, but I don't want to miss it.

Well i have looked around the internet and haven't found anything about Colours/Colors starting as a port of generations. The other stuff you were right about.

I feel like Sega's keeping their heads low for a while.

They're streaming the anniversary party from Joypolis. This is the first time they have ever streamed an anniversary party from there (they do one every year). And at last year's party, they first revealed Sonic Runners.

So there is a chance they could announce something.

I think that they will announce a new game on that US event in July (there's one, right?). Or maybe not, it's just my feelings.

Yes, that one has been labelled as "something you don't wanna miss".

I think they might tease the game at the Japanese one though. And then show off a proper trailer or even have it playable at the US one.

I also hope they at least have Fire & Ice playable at Summer of Sonic, because I'm going to that one...

New mainline Sonic was confirmed for 2017 at the Joypolis event, and it will be at the Party in San Diego on July 22nd, which has apparently been confirmed to be livestreamed.

Hmm... confirmed for 2017 makes me hopeful in a way. I'd have expected SEGA to try to get out a mainline game for the 25th anniversary. But if they're willing to give it the extra time, maybe they'll be able to work out the kinks then?

Between delaying Fire & Ice by nearly a full year (and it actually looks like a very promising game now), and pushing the Anniversary game to 2017 (which I think might possibly mean it will be an NX launch title), I'm really thinking SEGA meant it when they said they want to focus on quality assurance more from now on.

The 25th Anniversary game might end up being the Sonic game with the longest development cycle to date, depending on when it started development. The current holder of that record is Sonic Unleashed.

The early concept artwork and designs for the characters from the party thing yesterday were really interesting! Cream's ones were my favourite, and the really early Classic Sonic ones.

Shadow's ones were... quite something.

nice read there, brawler. I'm kind of mixed on Unleashed but I definitely agree it had a lot of ambition and Sonic Team really had something going there.

Since we're talking about the 25th anniversary game, I know it's doubtful, but I'd honestly love to see Lost World's core style of gameplay make a return. I feel like it suffered a lot thanks to its isometric design and excessive experimentation, because I loved the core gameplay of Lost World and how fluent it was to control Sonic. It reminds me a lot of Adventure 1, which is one of my favorites in the series.

That being said I'd still prefer to have the modern formula from Unleashed be used since that's been proven to pretty much be the best 3D Sonic gameplay style.

I've never knew how mesmerizing is to see the chat now that they started the moobot filter. It's eating so many messages just fast enough you can see them take over the page for a second.
