A man opened fire in a gay nightclub in Orlando, killing at least 50 and injuring at least 50 more. This is the worst mass shooting in the US in recent history.
A live update feed on news and reactions can be found here. Both Trump and Clinton have come out condemning the attacks.

This is an absolute tragedy. A horrible and evil thing.
I'm grateful that people are honoring the losses instead of pushing them aside, considering most lives were part of the LGBT+ community.

This is horrendous. 2016 is a horrible year when it comes to deaths so far. At least there are people who care about the poor people who didn't deserve this.

i feel like with all this stuff happening, whether you agree on it or not, it's a better idea to enact gun control, and stricter laws. "But people will still get guns illegally" but that may deter some people from even getting a gun, and it also makes it more likely for them to be caught, etc.
I just feel places need to step up security and start frisking, airports, concerts, clubs, and should enforce some gun rules.

I agree, for the most part. I'm a big supporter of second amendment rights, but there definitely needs to be more security for situations like these. I support owning any kind of gun, but I think there should be restrictions on where you can carry certain weapons. I know putting a "gun free zone" sign up won't stop someone who is out to kill, but there should be more police or guards or someone to drop that guy as soon as he opened fire. |

So how many people and politicians have already come out with the "Well if our gun laws weren't so strict, someone would've been carrying there and could've stopped him," argument yet? Because I know that's going to be a response, even though it's entirely unwarranted (and nonsensical).

I find it weird how we only talk about gun safety after an accident like this happens. However I don't view this incident to be blamed for by gun control. If one were to want to harm others they would use other uses of weapons instead of using guns. This incident was an act of terrorism as Mateen pledge to an alliance for ISIS. This has nothing to do with a man having a gun wanting to harm innocent LGBTQ members but a man having strong religious beliefs wanting to harm others. Banning guns or having more security won't affect heavily religious persons as they just want to see their view of what's better happen. They won't care for laws and will still hurt others. I don't think we should be talking about gun control but actually talk and call out the Islam beliefs.

I'm not sure if you're trolling or if this is one of your serious posts, but it's a lot harder to injure/kill over 100 people in a nightclub with a knife or baseball bat than it is with firearms. This guy walks in with a knife and stabs one or two people and will be apprehended relatively soon with minimal harm to others and at worst one or two deaths. He walks in with guns and it becomes considerably easier to kill people from farther distances, especially if nobody is going to try and wrestle the guns away from you. |

This has nothing to do with killing one hundred people with a gun. The whole point to my post was that guns aren't the only options for harming others. Terrorism isn't measured by the kill count but the purpose of killing for political beliefs. You can use bombs to harm thousands for the Quran and stab a man for the Quran. The only difference is how many people died because they're both acts of terrorism. |

I hate how both sides always use tragedies like this to push their agenda, like at least wait until the bodies are cold out of respect for the dead...

@sP Oh I misread. Sorry.
This situation is confusing here. The father claims "religion had nothing to do with this", but the gunman supposedly pledged to ISIS. But at the same time it appears as though ISIS, similar to Anonymous, is as easy to join as just saying you're a member, with no real process involved. And they aren't about to complain about it. That said, I don't know if it's in the right place to be calling out Islamic beliefs for all this. This is frequently an issue with extremist beliefs rather than the general Islamic populous or Quaran sayings. Similarly to how extremist Christians exist, so do extremist Muslims. Unfortunately they seem to have a more likely tendency to enact violence to get their way as opposed to Christians who's methods seem to be protesting soldier funerals. I'm wondering why though. I'm trying to remember the little bit that I learned about Muslim beliefs. Didn't Mohammad spread the word of God through forceful takeover or something along the lines (as opposed to Jesus' peaceful preaching)? Or am I very wrong on that one? |

I don't get it, what is the benefit of killing/injuring 100 people? There is no benefit from it. I guess he lost control over his life and thought shooting people would make it better.

If it's for religious reasons or extreme prejudice, they genuinely believe that the victims' very existence threatens their wellbeing or the world's salvation. Not actively doing something against the person, not speaking out or wronging them, just plain being alive is a threat.

This is truly awful... I also wish the best for the victims' families, and I hope the injured recover soon and the deceased rest in peace. If I could, I would donate blood, but I'm too far away and I'm not sure if they can ship it over from Indiana to Florida.
But last I checked, there are hundreds of people in Orlando lined up to donate blood after this. Also, a GoFundMe page for support of the victims has raised more than half a million dollars and rising fast! It's amazing to see all of this support for them.

These are the same people who protested a Soldier's funeral saying God made the war in Iraq because the US supports and allows gays. Even before same-sex marriage was legalized. Ask them why, they'll hold up a sign saying "God Hates ***s" then start chanting it. They don't care for human decency.

Almost as bad as the Texan politician who went on Twitter to say "You reap what you sow" to the victims of the shooting. Actually, it's pretty much the same thing, only he used a Bible quote to say it. Repugnant.
