Weird, my chopper's base definitely reads W2144, but everyone else's say a different number than mine.

Yours is probably from a different batch from later on in Trap Team's life cycle.

Nope. I buy 99% of my figures day one, and I know I bought everything released on TTs launch day.

That's weird... Hmmmm! I don't know, man. That's pretty weird

I still think that's "S1" Chopper's base with just the number changed to avoid confusions during the various testing phases: the color probably isn't enough for technical reasons I guess.

Ok, the poster might have altered the pictures but that doesn't mean he didn't do it simply to adjust lighting or things like that, to make the image clearer.
If the year on the base is photoshopped that it's one of the most convincing works I've ever seen.

Remember that not only was Spitfire a completely new character but he also had a quite unique base for the series (might have also been in a more advanced stage since the base was already orange and transparent).
This case could be much more different than we think.

Well,if we really want to put this to the test,we could always put the Spitfire pictures through that as well. Internet is bad now but I found that base picture here in the second page of the thread for SC, Ninja posted the URLs. Just grab a regular Spitfire picture for comparison.

Here is the FotoForensics of the Spitfire prototype. The artifacting isn't as bad as it is on the Chopper photo. Still, these were taken in two completely different conditions. One is outside and the other is inside a dimly lit room. Still, the Chopper image clearly has had a lot more stuff done to it.

My honest bet is this:

It's a 3D render and then placed in photoshop/image editing software.

He just forgot to change the model number, or was just a plain oversight.

It'd explain all the artifacts, weird quality in image #1 and the shadow in image #2.

People are crazy on the internet and love to see the place burn.

I mean let's be honest, if we had the technical power to do this, we'd be tempted to as well ;-) (maybe not with Skylanders... but with something! haha)

Here's something...

If you change the hue in Photoshop by +70, you can see where they brushed past the edge indicated by the green color.
[User Posted Image]

This one shows the same thing when you adjust the hue by +50, indicated by the violet color.
[User Posted Image]

Looks like they changed the base color to purple from red (background hue shift). The sculpt is pretty freaking good though.

That I can get behind more than the separated pixels. That looks like my pictures when I try shortcuts using PS' tools instead of a layer with the borders drawn by hand/lines.

Well, the figure still seems to be real, if 3D printed.

I believe the bottom of the figure had to be a really good photoshop. But, I don't know about the top half. Looks like it could very well be a custom. The eyes look a little unprofessional on the figure, leading me to suspicions of just repositioning the figure.

Somebody ask him for a video, something providing further proof. I need confirmation from him before I'm certain that it is fake or that it is legitimate. But, if it is fake, I have been amazed by the power of people today. If it is real, then we have new information about Skylanders 6. It's a win-win, for sure.

But, I am getting bugged by these fake leaks, if this is fake. I just want real confirmation already, come on Activision. *grunts*

Hey, does anybody have contact with Activision/Toys For Bob? If so, send them an image of this prototype and the source and see how they react. If they force it to be deleted, then it is probably real. If they do not bother, then it is probably fake. Come on, we know this from leak situations of the past.

lol, I know nothing, it's just my spider sense for fake stuff that tells me it is fake.

  • First picture the base is purple and the other ones it is pink-ish?
  • Uses the exact same base as the first Chopper (never happened with any figure).
  • Proof of color manipulation posted by 4inCreation.

I'll trust a leak when we see a character we never saw before that has a Skylander-like design.

Changing colors with photoshop can look very real with the right tools, I've done it myself, and only users who work often with the software would be able to tell so.

The problem in this case is not the color though, but the figure itself. No matter if it's a fan's work made at whatever 3D private printer or if it really came out of an activision office/factory, but that piece of plastic does "physically" exists; and I don't think those pics are the result of an amazing modification on the original chopper model using a photo editor software.

That said, I just find it weird that this is the "deliberate" leak this time around, because it doesn't give as much room as spitfire's did for speculation ( he was new and the base was something unseen).

It would be difficult to fake the grain patterns around the 6, but it's not impossible. I don't see the point of going through all that trouble and then being casual with changing the base color.

There are many mold seem lines that match the design of S1 Chopper. A 3D printed version wouldn't need them and would be hard to mimic too. It might also fit the base different.

There's always the chance of it being a Trap Team prototype, but it seems more likely to be a Sky 6 prototype that was painted black and colored in Photoshop for the fans.

Imagine if this Gusto was painted black and the base was changed to red in Photoshop...

Ahh, darn, late to a leak.

To add on a bit, my prototype Spitfire (yes; I own one of the three black plastic ones) has no factory ID / batch number. Very few prototypes actually have them. I'd say around 80% of the ones in the wild are missing the ID/batch # or the base entirely, 15% have them, and 5% have entirely blank unprinted bases.

The whole 6 vs 9 thing is wrong though. You have to actually do the work yourself to believe me.

It's all about the details. It's a different shape than the 9 and the grain of the photo matches up perfectly. I'm not saying someone doesn't have the photo-retouching skills to tweak the 9 to make it look like a 6, but that is much harder to do than most people are willing to consider. If you try to turn the 9 into a six and make it look as accurate as the image I posted earlier (you would have to wipe out the 6 and remake it over a different grain pattern), you would see what I mean.

I actually think they took the 6 off of another figure. Knightmare, Knight Light, and Echo have a 6 in their model number.

If they pasted it from another image, why not just flip the figure over. It would highlight the correct part of the 9 and it's just a flipped 6 in that situation. It would be hard to get the base to line up with the same exact angle it hits the sun with any other figure or a flipped figure. I think this is just too detail oriented to be in the same realm as the base color edit quality.

Honestly it doesn't really matter how it was done as there are enough subtle errors to prove that it was fake. Although that would also be a way to do it.

  • He claimed that the toy came in with his order on his television
  • He didn't know Chopper's name until someone told him on his second topic on his fake leak

It's more a question of "Does it belong with Trap Team or Sky 6?" than being fake.

Also, why would a unique mold have the same model number as S1 Chopper? It seems like all the pose alterations are made before it goes to the factory and the model number would follow final approval. That's why I was leaning more towards it was probably just left alone when they reused the S1 base. It might have even been overlooked if they typically don't reuse the base design.

4inCreation changed the hue and the color painted over the base was visible going over that actual space, so yeah. Dunno how to find the original color, I'm barely started with color theory; I'd take a guess if it got green when the base got orange, blue was used and it's actually red? I'm.... Not feeling that answer is right.

I think it was an on-the-fly fix as they were taking pics and posting them. The first photo was simple. As they took more photos during the day, they tried to show more detail. One of the last photos which shows the most detail on the base was probably when they got a little tired of recoloring the base and where the biggest mistakes can be seen along the edge. If you adjust the hue on a layer set to "color" in Photoshop and mask the adjusted layer along the edge of where they changed it, you can see it balances out at +50. This just means that it turns red when you match the changed color of the background to the original photo. It must have been a red base.

Like the Gusto photo I posted, sometimes they might use different color bases than the final mold. A Trap Team red base might simply be easier to make.
Drek95 Emerald Sparx Gems: 4761
#145 Posted: 23:47:44 18/05/2016
Absolutely agree with you, 4inCreation.
They might have even used the exact same base as Chopper's to reduce the modeling time and simply changed the year.
Not to mention the prototype Gusto you posted has a SWAP Force blue base since it was the game prior to his own: SuperChargers has no transparent bases so it wouldn't be too weird if they used Trap Team's, maybe because they still have spare red bases around.

Like I said before, Spitfire prototype seemed to be in a sligthly more advanced phase.

I won't lie, I wouldn't exclude the possibility Activision itself required the color change.
After all, the "came with the TV" story doesn't hold up so why would we want to trust the rest of the case?
