Sorry if this has been answered before but I can't find it. Is it just a damage boost like using a trapmaster against a trappable villian or something else?

Damage and health boost, also allows modding for any Supercharger.

Supercharging a vehicle simply boost some of its stats up and slightly modify its look.
Exactly the same that happens if you play as a SuperCharger while his/her vehicle is on the Portal.

Supercharging it the first time also unlocks a special set of mods.

  • Skylander has more health
  • Skylander attacks are stronger
  • Vehicle stats are increased (faster, stronger, more resistance)
  • Unlocks 2 Mods for the Vehicle that can't be obtained in any other way when supercharged for the first time

Does that mean then that there are vehicle mods that are ONLY available when use a supercharger combo? ie there are vehicle DLC mods that require a specific purchase?

Honestly I haven't scrutinized it, as imo the mods seem underwhelming on all levels.

Are those mods weapons? Or any kind of mod.

In Skylander Supercharge Racing for 3ds and Wii, only superchargers and his signature vehicles can choose the supercharged mods.

It's not that much of a difference on mods, you really want to supercharge only for health and attack increases unless you can't live without that supercharged mod set.

Yep but they stay unlocked once you supercharged the vehicle the first time.
EDIT: didn't understand you were talking about supercharging exclusive changes; yes, there are some small details which appear only when a vehicle is supercharged but they are really minimal.

It is annoying but I sincerely think having to buy Trophies to simply unlock Supercharged Challenges is much worse.

Just aesthetic mods which impact certain stats.
No extra weapons so far but I only own 9 vehicle/SuperCharger combos and no Nintendo exclusive figures.

The alterations of having the supercharged combo on are so dumb you can barely call them DLC. Hot Streak gets some vents in the front, Barrel Blaster gets Diddy, Sky Slicer gets frills on the back because the feather blades look weird from afar, others get texture changes; it's aesthetic and so minimal you could slap one of the custom paintjobs for something more noticeable, which only needs any Supercharger like normal editing.

There are some Vehicles I like without using or relying on their signature SuperChargers:

Nitro Soda Skimmer
Jet Stream
E3 Hot Streak
Burn-Cycle
Dark Sea Shadow
Legendary Sun Runner

However, they have SuperCharged mods that I wanted to get only after pairing the Vehicles with their signature drivers. The only SuperCharged combo pairs I currently own are:

Power Blue Splat + PB Splatter Splasher
Stormblade + Sky Slicer
Dark Hammer Slam Bowser + Dark Clown Cruiser
Deep Dive Gill Grunt + Reef Ripper
Dark Turbo Charge Donkey Kong + Dark Barrel Blaster
Fiesta (original and Frightful) + Crypt Crusher
Bone Bash Roller Brawl (original and Legendary) + Tomb Buggy
Nightfall + Dark Sea Shadow
Legendary Astroblast + L-Sun Runner

I think the Clown Copter has the oddest choice. It just gets...propellers.

As for the Gold Rusher, I've tried to figure out what makes it SuperCharged. I thought maybe the fireworks on the Gold Rush become active, but that's all I know.
