i did see plenty of dark editions left on the shelves at the shops where i live... and the price have been down to $70 from $100.... but still no one is buying. but i guess things are different in the usa, where people are still going crazy for the skylanders.

They are $88 in Australia but EB only have X1, X360, and Wii dark starters left.

But seriously, incredible tip that came in last night. Still not fully convinced, but there is some hard evidence supporting it.

I highly doubt that all the Dark Edition figures will even become available as individual, double or even triple packs.

Our Dark Editions have always been so expensive xD

It's almost as if they're trying to REALLY piss off hardcore fans who bought how many starter packs? this is really a precedent. If I didn't know any better they recalled back all of the dark starters and they're simply re-packaging them.

When they said that all characters are having a Single Pack, I didn't know that variants made part of that count.

Good news. It would be good if they make this with past games' Dark Skylanders...

They literally made the Dark Edition worth nothing.
But then, again, you have to do these sort of things when you are dealing with only 40 figures, 20 of which aren't even Skylanders and might not appeal as much to regular customers.
So variants, multiple packagings, exclusives and so on.

Oh, wait!
Trap Team had roughly double the number of actual characters yet never had those kind of problems (it had other ones, of course).
So it's possible to keep it straight and simple yet making it work!

And another thing, a lot of people who don't know what they're doing already think some will only work on certain consoles. Sure, it's absolutely not Activision's fault if someone will buy one of those Combo Packs and expect the figures to work on non-Nintendo consoles... But as I said they were the first to say "we won't release Skymiibos separately because we don't want to create confusion", so this choice sounds kinda dumb from that point of view.

Mistakes like that should never happen (especially when the box itself specifies it rather clearly) but if people can buy Trap Team figures and expect them to work with SWAP Force, then I'm sure we'll hear a lot of complains.

I didn't mention I'm happy they decided to release the Kaos Trophy as a Single because that's truly Dark Edition exclusive brand new content (even if it's not that much from what I heard)... Can't say the same for black painted Skylanders.
That was definitely not a good choice.

Given the fact you needed to buy so many Starter Packs for a collection, it wouldn't surprise me they take this path. But, I wouldn't take this as "proof". That site might just take left over Dark Starters and sell them separately, or they might just be anticipating a potential release.

I don't think the Dark edition was nonsense (at least for the people that bought it). These people may have doubles and paid more, but they also had them months before the singles. I also bought my Nightfall for 10 bucks more, but I had her three months before the actual release. That additional money was spend for the waiting time so you don't have to wait.

That was my thought, but after hearing the words mutter "skymibo characters will not be available outside the starter pack" from Activision I guess anything goes. They shjould go ahead and release Hot Streak and Spitfire in single form now, which is what we originally thought of that statement.

Humm, they will probably just open Dark packs and sell the figures used individually online for a higher price then they are worth. This is just some random website, not a big retailer like Gamestop, TRU, Target, etc. anyway.

There's a lot of online stores that sell Skylanders, basically like a warehouse. So who knows it might be real, but they weren't told to keep quiet about it or something and GameStop and Toys R Us (those ell Dark Editions right?) have been told to keep quiet until closer to release day? Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Kinda tempted to get the Wii U version (dark edition) when it goes on sale at some point so I can use my Skymiibos. I'd be okay with completing the whole thing again. I could get that and then, if this rumor is true, get the single packs of the other Darks.

My guess is this is a site that might sell ones that it removed from a starter pack. If you ask me it looks odd, I mean the regular amiibolanders are only sold in combo packs. Why would the dark versions not be only in combo packs too? It seems odd they would make new packing for singles of the amiiblanders.

If there is a Sky 6, Activision would be shooting themselves in the foot on sales of the potential future dark editions of the game if they were to release singles of dark Superchargers characters. The release of dark singles all depends on the desperation/greed factor in trying to maximize profits of Superchargers (short-sighted cash grab).

On the curiosity side, what country is that website based in that lists the dark singles? My best guess is .za is from Zaire, but that country no longer exists as it's part of Congo. Maybe South Africa?

I suspect this is due to really slow sales. They forecast higher, then it didn't pan out even close.

The US Dollar is worth quite a bit more than the Australian Dollar.

Also, just because AWX anticipates a release, doesn't mean there will actually be a release. AWX is just a small retailer in South Africa, they don't set anything.

As much as prefer the Dark Editions to the standard (especially in the case of Flop Team since Dark Wildfire and Snap Shot looked better than their standard counterparts... Same can't be said for Dark Food Fight which is an abomination of a character in any form), I hope they do away with it. Sure you get more figures but it's not really a great deal unless you find it on sale (but then the standard edition is on sale as well).

Also dumb: the regular starter packs with the special variant (looking at you Golden Hot Streak!)

No new portals!!! Charge the same amount and give us an extra figure, but it's ridiculous to be releasing a new portal with each game. Especially if Disney infinity goes the DLC route with new expansion packs, it'll only make Skylanders look bad with the annual portals & make the masses run from Skylanders that much quicker. Skylanders needs to change with the times and the standard rinse & repeat formula with starter packs including new portals will be a huge misstep!
