I think he looks great, almost like a mix of the Legendary GodZilla and the 1954 version.
The eyes look ... strange, but I guess this is what we get for having the Showa GodZilla have such big eyes, lol.

IIRC, they did say they were using the original 1954 design as a 'base' and were going to create a 'nightmare', and while one's mileage may vary I would say that's basically what we got. Godzilla looks so misshapen/wrong/bizarre because he's supposed to.

Someone on Toho Kingdom gave an analysis that I found interesting and wanted to share (plus it says what I'm too tired to say, far better than I ever could).

Quote:
I agree, it's quite ugly; Its skin texture looks like exposed, blackened and tumourus muscle strands: its dorsal plates look almost like fungal growths bursting haphazardly from its back: its teeth have no rhyme nor reason, and sprout like weeds, crowding and choking its jaws: and last of all its eye is dead, insignificant, soulless.

And I think that's the point. It's a walking tribute to decay and rot, devoid of life and spirit.

It is not a symbol of destruction, but the echoing emptiness that follows.

It is the city left silent and abandoned. The corpse left rotting. It is all the things we come to mourn.

It is not the atom bomb. It is the ugly, sombre husk that the bomb left behind.

My thoughts on the teaser? Ehhh, I feel neutral to it. Still very interested in the movie, but the teaser... IDK, it's just there. Then again, I recognize a decent chunk of those scenes (vids and gifs of some of those were posted on Toho Kingdom), so there's not a whole lot there that's new to me. *shrug*

oh and someone made this and i have to share it

Why is everyone so weirded out about the eyes? They look awesome and terrifying, like Godzilla was always supposed to.

Because Godzilla's eyes have never looked so... well, weird.
And I don't think that they look 'awesome' or 'terrifying', as they look like silly googly eyes to me

I personally don't like this design much, but I understand what they're going for with the whole 'nightmare' idea. (Which is interesting, I must admit)

I didn't like it until the "Nightmare" thing came up. It makes a whole lot of sense now, and I totally see what they were going for.

That being said, I still think the 2014 Godzilla was my favorite design, but didn't like the movie much. It kind of took one of the worst parts of the Transformers movies with the military guy and his family, in that you go to see it for the spectacle, the monsters/robots fighting, not the human drama. No one likes the human drama.

The 'nightmare' thing has made me like it a bit more, but not much since he sorta looks like something out of FN@F.

I didn't mind the human drama that much, tbh. (I never really minded it in Tranformers either, tbh)

My main problem with the film was Godzilla's lack of screen time, though I understood that they were trying to build up suspense for him.

Otherwise I loved the movie.

Idk, even if it keeps me up, I'm constantly intrigued by the horrific monsters people design. Specifically like FNAF stuff, even though it scares the hell out of me. Don't get me wrong, I hate the fans, but the designs are really cool to me.

I pay to see GIANT MONSTERS OR ROBOTS FIGHTING OTHER GIANT MONSTERS OR ROBOTS, not "waaah my family is gone and I must survive".
And I payed to see Bryan ****ing Cranston and he got like 20 minutes of screen time.

I see where it comes from, but I still didn't particularly like it.

It's still going on. The new film comes out in 2018, and will take place in the same cinematic universe that Kong: Skull Island will be in, opening up the possibility for a Godzilla vs King Kong somewhere down the road. Toho's just doing it because of the current movie nostalgia train that's been chugging along since The Force Awakens was announced. All the old studios are making new versions of their properties.

And I'd like to point out the 2014 Godzilla wasn't crappy at all. I'm really picky with my film tastes, and even though I look back on it with some disdain, it still opened to generally positive reviews. It currently sits at a comfy 74% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Idk, I'm just not a big fan of it. It doesn't invoke fear for me, just makes me giggle 'cause it looks really silly to me.
(Godzilla will probably look better in the film itself, though)

I mean I do to, but I don't really mind the human drama BS. That said, I'm not fond of it either, but sometimes it makes sense to have it in there.
(And Bryan Cranston getting such little screen time was BS, I agree)

I just think it's interesting. And I agree, he'll probs look better on screen.

Eh, I just think it distracts from the plot we paid to see. If that part was advertised more I'd accept it.
I WANTED BRYAN CRANSTON DAMMIT

I have...problems with Godzilla 2014 (and they're pretty much the usual complaints so I won't get into them here), but I still enjoy the movie and wouldn't call it 'crappy'. And I believe a Godzilla and Kong movie was already confirmed, but there are no details on what it's going to be about. It actually helped get me interested in Kong: Skull Island, which I wasn't sure I was going to watch until the announcement.

I just found the 'No more crappy American Godzilla' Dinorang67 said a bit weird, because, well... Legendary's Godzilla isn't going away. Toho making a new film isn't going to stop Legendary from continuing their movies. Toho didn't 'take' it back or anything.

It's going to be interesting having Legendary's series and Toho's own series running at the same time. I doubt Toho will settle for just one film, unless Shin Gojira/Godzilla Resurgence somehow manages to be a colossal (heh) failure, but I'm not so sure that will be the case.
