I assume they do this because people will take their family to see Star Wars, but it will be sold out so this is next in line...

Oh I thought Alvin was gonna come out in January you know, the month were most terrible films wind up in.

Alvin won't bomb but it won't make nearly as much as it would've if it released earlier. It probably won't tank unless it gets ridiculously scathing reviews a la Fantastic Four but depending on its budget (can't seem to find it) it could potentially just break even or make a small profit, which isn't satisfying for Fox.

I can fully see Star Wars reaching $1 billion worldwide by Christmas and even without that I expect it to break Avatar's record. There's been far too much hype for far too long that it's going to make that money no matter what. Unfortunately all that hype also means that it's not going to live up to people's expectations and you can expect a lot of *****ing online when it comes out.

Yeah, in Fox's mind; you take your kids to see movies during Christmas time, and the little tykes love the movie so much, you get for them on Easter.

^That's not too bad an idea.

And it would usually work except this time what will likely become the highest grossing film of all time is opening not just within the same window, but on the exact same day. Big Green's idea is sound and it's likely to happen (though older kids will likely elect to just go home and wait another day) but the film is bound to lose potential money to some extent for it.

They're still going to do it for Easter. Except Star Wars will also be released on Blu-Ray at this time.

This movie seems like the kind of thing you leave your kids at and then go watch Star Wars next door.

Nope. They were going to have the movie come this friday. but they moved it to the day Star Wars came out.

Looks like the new Yo-Kai Watch movie is doing better than Star Wars in Japan, but there's a story for why.
