Vehicles in Future Skylanders Games?

Well, it's time for yet another Skylanders 6 discussion... Probably not, but whatever. And this discussion is... pretty major, when you think about it. We all thought TFB backed VV into a corner when they introduced Traps, and now VV backed them into an even deeper corner with vehicles. Why? Well, in Trap Team, trapping villains was the main gimmick, but you didn't need it to beat the game. You could go through the entire game without trapping one bad guy if you so desired.

Not the case with Superchargers. Sure, it's only the Land vehicles, but this is the first time in the Skylanders series where the gimmick is actually required to play through the game. So no matter what route they decide to go with, I think most Portal Masters are going to feel jibbed off.

So, that's why I decided to create this topic. What do you think they'll do with vehicles next game? Because we know they're probably not going to scrap them entirely.

What I think is that, aside from still giving their corresponding Superchargers a stat boost, they'll bring back Heroic Challenges and have it so each vehicle unlocks a bonus challenge that requires a vehicle of it's terrain to complete. It's not a lot compared to this game, I know, but it'd at least be something.

I think there will be a spot in the academy where you can do some small races and maybe we can also race online.

I'm not entirely sure if the sixth Skylanders game will also be the direct sequel to SSC with new racing courses and Vehicles. But if there will be, I hope they'll create new motorcycle-based Land Vehicles like the Burn-Cycle, only by starting with two wheels instead of one. I'm hoping Yoshi and Rosalina become Skymiibos or Amiibolanders of the Magic and Light elements, respectively with Sea Vehicles of the Water and Magic elements, respectively. As for the third set of Eon's Elites, they should, bring back Double Trouble, Drobot, Bash, Lightning Rod, Flameslinger, Zap, Camo, and Cynder. But for now, I'd rather enjoy SSC long enough until the end of Summer of 2016.

Something along these lines. Like Trap Team, the'll put a "token gesture" to allow you to USE the toy, but your racing days will be over. Count on it. I expect their market share to continue to tumble as they make these bone headed choices like they did for traps. Btw, devil advocate: It would be very busy/dumb if this game had villains, just as it will be dumb if the next game had racing (well, I like the idea of every game having tracks to use, and that would be awesome, but definitely not in game). What they need to do is to STOP DOING THIS as it alienates customers and reduces our investment in the toys. It puts them in an untenable position in which there are no winners.

Just make it about skylanders, and I'll be fine.

I would like to see them make everything in the past playable with a purpose as well as introduce a pair of light and dark Giants & Swappers. Make gates that can only be opened by the corresponding Giants/Swappers/Trap Teamers and connect them to interesting content/gameplay instead of lame mini-game challenges. You know, reward the fans that spent tons of money for near complete sets of stuff rather than to ignore the past. As for Vehicles, I dunno, probably make them into little RC racers to play at a Skymall or some shotty mini-game (shows you how much I care about those). Whatever it'll be just no sport themed Skylanders as that'll be worse than a racing one for me.

I don't expect much from vehicles in the next game. At maximum, they will give a Legendary Treasure or you can use then to SuperCharge their respective SuperCharger in the game. That's all. What I really like to see is a Vehicle Battle Mode. Imagine Battle Arenas based on the tracks of the game, plus you can use Trophies to unlock new arenas and use Villains in the mode. It would be interesting.

I still think the best direction to go in with vehicles is to integrate them into the normal gameplay the same way Lego Dimensions and Disney Infinity have done. Simplify them, shrink them down a bit, and let us use them whenever we want. Then make the worlds more open so we can traverse them in our vehicles. The game could also include some in-game vehicles (as in, with no toy, like Disney Infinity's vehicles) as well, for people who don't own a Superchargers vehicle.

I imagine what will happen is that they'll keep the racing mode, but vehicles won't have much use in the main levels aside from making their respective Superchargers more powerful.

I remember it too.
It was the same interview in which he said they were thinking about adding more elemental features and also talked about the possibility to use Cloud to store character's data.

Absolutely agree.
That's definitely the direction I would love them to take.

I think we cannot be too sure about the future of those gimmick figures, as we still don't know if that was a V.V. or Activision's choice.
Traps were the first gimmick to not be actual characters and they weren't supported in SuperChargers.
However TfB might restore their former functions in Skylanders 6 and also support vehicles in a respectful way, without simply making them unlock "elemental projectiles" or Legendary Treasures.

Traps Masters are also simple big Cores as of now and SuperChargers won't be any different.
Why?
Because both worked perfectly with their other gimmick (trappable villains/Traptanium clusters and vehicles): take them away and they are simple Cores.
Giants and SWAP Force are special, and will always remain special because their unique features impact the classic gameplay all by themselves.

Both devs need to stop creating one time gimmicks, whether they are tied to specific in-game functions or special figures, and either simple release a bunch of new Cores or create a Skylander related gimmick.

Skylanders 6 will hopefully make us understand if it will be worth to keep investing money in gimmick figures or not.

If there is a Skylanders six next Fall (I'm of the belief they might wait a year this time), vehicles will be a token gesture, like Traps. Keep this in mind as all the variant vehicles come out. At least the vehicles are cool toys for kids to play with this year.

That would not provide us with close quarter combat situations, and would be a bad idea as it would force large expansive areas for combat. Can you imagine if you for example board a ship that's very small and a vehicle ended up being on it? I see problems galore with this idea. Tracks/side missions that take advantage of vehicles--I'm on board. My .02.

I would still like to use the vehicles in future games. On-line racing and ability to unlock the original tracks in future games when you place the trophies on the portal.

If you happen to be in a small area, you simply wouldn't use a vehicle. There would be open areas and enclosed areas, sometimes you'd want to use your vehicle and sometimes you wouldn't. That's how open world games work.

I'm trying to emphasize that the level design would have to take this into account, and I sense a large battle arena might be relatively trivial with enemies that were going to be blasted by skylanders. How and when you use the vehicles simply doesn't pan out because you say "open world" you know...it's a lot of design / testing for it to make sense. Also, not being able to race down long corridors (or having the ability to dredge through it with a skylander) would surely get some confused looks from players. I guess I'm saying every game would basically feel like SC in every game, which I DON'T want. We would have to seriously depart from the current formula, and I've only been saying this for 2 games now that it's time to change it.
