So I'm curious. We all spend thousands on these figures. I keep having the thought, what if the RFID chips crap out down the line? How do we play our Skylander games and with the figures we've invested thousands of dollars in?
Do RFID chips last longer the less we play with our figures? Do they last forever? What is the future solution if they're all going to give out? How mad will this make customers?

I remember people discussing this months ago and there was a (decent)timeframe for them to stop working properly, but hey, as long as the figures aren't mistreated(left out in the sun, soaked, etc etc) they probably won't give in that soon. Unless,of course, that figure is Legendary Bouncer.

I remember hearing something about NFC chips having to be scanned around 10,000 times before they give out. We've got quite a bit of time.

Gosh darn, considering how rarely I use Food Fight and Gill Grunt, then, they might be the last two in my collection in the future. For context, iirc Legendary Bouncers were dying(and not just getting corrupted data, I think?) when all other figures would at most stop having working lights sometime ago.

These are RFIDs, not NFCs.. but at least my smash amiibo will live for years to come!!! ....unless you use them in mario party. |

If the RFID chips are passive then:

no your right. there is no power supply in any of these figures so the life span is extremely long. even the lightcores do not have a power supply in them, it all works of the scanner. also given the fact these are sealed away inside the figures probably means they will last even longer.

Sounds reassuring. Hoping this is the case. I mean they're only used a few times a year, so they could last my whole life of that's the case.

I remembered of the S1 Eruptors that stopped working. Maybe the first production run. So, someone can explain what happened to Legendary Bouncer? I'm a bit out.

I think the console and games technology race will kill our Skylander interest far sooner then the chips going to heck .
