Tbh I know how you're feeling because I'm going through the same sort of thing, so I might not be able to give you the greatest advice but I'll do my best.

For starters, are you having doubts about your major/program or are you having doubts about college in general?

If it's your major, since this is only your first semester it may be a little too early to know for sure. With reality setting in, I know things may seem scary or stressful, so you could be feeling cold feet and wondering if what you're aiming for is what you really want after all. I feel like the best thing to do right now is wait and see how you feel at the end of the school year once you've completed your second semester. I guess it kind of depends on the program and school too, though. Like for me, I didn't really get to start taking major film classes until my sophomore year (this year). So if you're already taking the classes needed for your program then fine. But if your program is like mine and you haven't really been immersed in it yet, then I'd wait until the end of the first semester of your sophomore year. You may find that things have improved with time and you end up liking it more than you expected. If not, no sweat. A lot of students switch their majors and if that's the case for you, it's not a big deal. Just do what you think is best for you and do what makes you happiest.

If you're worried that college isn't right for you, basically it's along the lines of the same thing. I'd just wait it out a year and see what happens. The first few months are always the hardest but once you get used to things you actually start to enjoy it a bit. And if you find that you really just aren't happy with it, try to think of some ways that might make it easier for you. Like for one thing, making friends helps a lot because they generally keep you busy. Going out and taking part in things that your school offers can also help. And I really mean that like it helps a lot. But if worse comes to worst and you still aren't happy and decide to leave (please note that I think this should be the absolute last resort) then maybe you could come up with a back-up plan and try to get some sort of job lined up. I'm not really sure what the job requirements are for engineering if you plan on sticking with that but I feel like college would be the most beneficial route tbh. And even if you do decide to drop out to pursue something else, I'm sure your family won't be as disappointed as you think because they probably just want you to do what makes you happy.
