Darth Vader does seem like he would be at the very least an interesting candidate. But in the end he also wouldn't be a very ideal one and in the end could actually be among the worst choices for president given his previous track record and behaviors.
Now I'm going to be bending things a little. Because of course the POTUS doesn't have absolute power over the country and also has to answer to the House of Representatives and the Senate. But for the sake of this argument let's say Vader went ahead and rigged things to install his own party into both houses, or used Sith mind tricks to force everyone onto his side and be given automatic approval for everything. And also for the sake of it that using these mind tricks he's able to create an amendment that repels the amendment restricting presidents to two terms, and then mind tricks the electoral college, allowing him to forever be reelected.
Firstly we need to remember what he was doing back when he was in control of the Galactic Empire. The Empire ruled with an iron fist over many star systems in the galaxy, choosing to invade and take over a planet rather than make allies and peace with it. He held a militaristic imperial approach, not that far off from European imperialism in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. Chances are if elected president and given full control he would attempt to carry this philosophy over to US foreign policy.
Such imperialism and marching around is a big no-no nowadays on the international level and can often be considered an act of war not just with the nation you're trying to take over, but also any allies that nation has and all the allies that THOSE nations have (see: Germany's wild trip into Poland). Vader could essentially be starting World War III just because he didn't like how those Bahamas were running things all happily and colorful and felt they needed some Empire spice to it.
I know what you might be thinking. "Well he can mind trick other politicians into siding with him!". Except by then other leaders will know that he's capable of this and will refuse to have meetings or discussions with him of any form, or even get near him. And yeah I can totally see Vader going Independence Day style "I'M FIGHTING IN THE WAR TOO" but chances are he'll get his stupid ass shot down and now we're without a president good work.
In the end war would be the only option, and this would be a massive money sink, which cleverly moves to the next point...
Secondly, Vader may be good with words (or his hand waving abilities) to help clear up some debt but his financial policies would probably lead to ruin on the US economy. Such a militaristic force will probably lead to the further investment into military spending, which would probably lead the US to have an even larger military budget than it already has (and remember that the US already has a larger budget than most of the world's nations combined). He would also likely try to sink money into scientific research to develop new technologies with the primary goal of military use (lasers, more advanced lightsabers, AT-ATs, mega giant planet sized death rays of utter doom, you know the usual). All this spending will greatly increase the national debt to an unstable level that would inevitably lead to collapse and ruin.
And in an attempt to push more money into research and the Not-So-Galactic Army, the money will be taken from other things that Vader feels is expendable. Health care, social security, education to an extent (in a time of total war he probably won't be focused on the future but rather in the present), and so forth will all be sacrificed to make the Empire a force to be reckoned with. The nation will have a much more massive poverty rate and the wealth gap (if there even is one at all) would be monumental.
Thirdly, there's a chance he wouldn't even be running a lot of the show. Yes he ran the Galactic Empire a decent bit but in the end everything he did was for the bidding of the true Emperor, and chances are this trend would continue here. Vader would be president but he would be answering to an even higher power, making him more akin to a Vice President, but with a fancy title.
Fourthly, he's mentally unfit for the job. People have made (rather offensive) cracks at how there shouldn't be a female president because she could have her emotions get the better of her and ruin everything, but there hasn't been much to suggest that. Vader on the other hand is proven to be unstable and have a ridiculously short fuse. His growing up, constant trauma, loss of his wife (and to his knowledge, children), and lack of anger management training has left him a man that, while sometimes empty, also capable of extreme anger and sorrow that could heavily affect the country should he get the absolute power he wants.
And lastly, he can't keep rebellions down forever. All it takes is for his kid to come out of nowhere and shoot a laser into a tiny window in the Death House to take him and his administration out, which would throw the entire nation out of whack and create anarchy among the 50 states and territories (and perhaps the Bahamas if Vader got that far enough).
As you can see Vader seems like a guy with a lot of promise at the start and would probably poll rather well, but in the end wouldn't be a very good fit for the presidential job. He wouldn't really help the country more than harm it and potentially harm others around him.
Now Jar Jar on the other hand? I think he's a common man we can all get behind.
