Most sites actually put it on the front page if there's gonna be some expected server downtime. It's just good practice to inform people of expected maintenance and what not. Is it me or does it seem like when we do get notification that there's something going on, it's not appreciated by some users? At least we'll know that the site will be down for awhile.
