Connect your console to internet and
For racing- select online play and go search and wait for people to join, there's a option for searching friends or random people
For coop- must have a friend who is online, talk to Cali or select friends option in pause menu, select the friend who is online, select join, and Boom

During co-op go to the Skystones game in the game area of the Academy.

This also works if you are both playing a game in a level.

Each player plays with their own deck/vehicle/skylander element.
