Can someone that has tried the trophies tell me what, exactly, they do? My son hasn't earned our copy of Superchargers yet (yes, I know, I have already been reminded multiple times that I am a mean, terrible father), so I haven't had the chance to experiment yet.

Also, am I correct that there are going to be 4 trophies (Kaos from the Dark pack, and one each from land, sea, and sky racing packs)? Are there others?

You are correct in the number of trophies as for what they do, once they are placed on the portal they will unlock more race tracks and additional challenges as well, that's just when you initially place it on the portal to get more use of them play the boss challenge in the racing menu where you fight bosses on the race track and once they are defeated use the trophy to trap them. If you ever want to play as the trapped villain you will need to put the trophy back on the portal.

The trophies do the following:

1. They unlock multiple tracks as part of the RACING part of the game. Each trophy controls tracks for each of the types of vehicles (LAND, AIR, SEA)
2. It unlocks the capability to do the BOSS PURSUIT for the types of tracks in question. This is a mode where you have to chase a villain through a track and defeat him/her in a limited number of track runs.
3. It unlocks the MIRROR TRACKS section for play for those set of tracks.
4. The trophy itself STORES each villain you've pursued and defeated. You have to use the TROPHY to PLAY AS VILLAINS. You can only play as the villains for the track type selection (LAND, AIR, SEA). For example, you can defeat FRIGHTBEARD on one of the sea tracks, and can play as him on any of the other sea tracks. You cannot play as FRIGHTBEARD on the AIR or LAND tracks.

So does the Kaos trophy unlock additional tracks as well, or is it just the land/sea/air trophies that unlock tracks?

Kaos Trophy doesn't unlock any tracks.

Gives you Kaos playable on Sky tracks iirc. He manages to be even more OP than last year, so be sure to ban people using him from tournaments - I think he can 1HKO another racer and has more HP than two Giants combined.

Wait, is it really all the Kaos Trophy unlocks ? I knew it didn't have extra tracks but I thought it unlocked a few special challenges around Kaos too.
Not so sure anymore if I better get a Dark or Regular Pack if that's the case. I don't see the fun of ever using him if he is so OP and Sky Tracks only.

So, basically he's an immediate villain unlock on the Sky track. Yeah, that's not a lot. Agreed he should be banned.

Frightbeard was useless for me, but I haven't put a ton of time into it yet. I'm guessing just like Skylanders some of us will have our own personal opinions on how useful/fun they are.

Nope, only on their specific racing terrain

Can you store multiple villains in a single trophy, and have those you have caught available for selection? Or is it like TT where it's one villain per trophy?

The former. They're avaliable to select in the Trophy menu below your portal's current skylanders' icons. Weird,the interviews said you had to do it like TT.

The Kaos Trophy is the only one I'm not worried about owning, so the only incentives for me to get any Dark Edition are and Dark Hot Streak, both of which I could possibly get as loose singles.

Yeah the interface is a bit weird on this. Once you select a track, there's an icon of the trophy that notifies you that you can place the trophy on the portal and hit X or whatever and you'll be able to "override" whatever is on the portal skylander wise and play as one of the villains you've defeated.

So, before you can defeat a villain though you'll need to get 1st place in a Single race for that track (any difficulty). You also can't defeat villains until you place the trophy on the portal to unlock Boss Pursuit and Mirror Tracks for that area (land, sea, air).

Wait...there are mirror variants of every track?! That means that there are essentially 24 tracks to race!

In reverse. Haven't tried it yet. If you count the "modes" as well "Boss Pursuit", "Time Trials" etc it goes up more, but those are more like modifiers.
