Nightfall is placed on the Portal and wasn't even registered by the game, just to sum it up for those who don't want to watch.

So, all I saw in the first 30 seconds is that "Nightfall doesn't work". Not sure how this constitutes that "all Nightfalls are recalled" if that's the point of this thread. Sjylanders come dead all the time. It's not exactly a super rare thing. Is there any substantial information out there to qualify this? I would say if you can point to two or three videos out there saying there's did not work then I'd be more willing to accept a recall theory. |

Don't know what happened, but a good number of S1 Eruptors "die" after some play time. If you get your one good time ago, there's not danger, because the defecting one last a couple of months. But this probably was fixed in later manufatures of the figure.

Guess it's just an amazing coincidence... Just got back from getting wave 2 at my local Target, and guess what? I place Nightfall on the portal and "This toy can't be used with this game." I even tried loading it on the 3DS version to see if I can reset the toy so it would work on consoles and it says the same thing on the 3DS version. I bet all Nightfalls are like this.

Chances are good that they'll all be recalled and we won't see Nightfall again until a springtime wave once they've had a chance to be remade at their factories in China. Or if Superchargers sales aren't good enough, I wouldn't put it past Activision to pull a yawn trap repeat and not release a corrected version of Nightfall at all. As of right now, it seems all produced Nightfall figures are just expensive paperweights. Activision won't go to the trouble of fixing any figures, but will probably provide a replacement in line with their current figure replacement program, but it could be months before they receive working replacements. |

Are the figures actually faulty or are there errors in the games code that the game can't recognise that they might be able to fix with a patch. If you are getting an error that the figure won't work with the game it means it can read the chip. Has anyone tried to use him in the previous games?

This! I honesty believe this to be the cause. Thinking back, when the Light and Dark adventure packs were first released at Toys R Us a few days to a week before Christmas last year, I remember when Trap Team booted up that the game itself said that Light and Dark were just added and the unknown elemental gates became known. This could have been from a game update, or a timed barrier to not unlock until the official day the figures were to be officially released to the public. I do believe either a patch or a game update will fix this issue, if it needs to fixed in the first place as Activision could have just most likely put a temporary hold on Nightfall for a possible reason that maybe there's a slight advantage, or maybe Activision has a special place in their hearts for their new elements and don't want people to use or abuse them until their official day of release. Though I know this is all speculation and I could be wrong, I do happen to believe this is the case. |

I just got to thinking. After reading this topic before I went to buy mine, I made sure to put Nightfall on the portal at Target to see if the trailer loaded, and it did. It showed Nightfalls trailer, meaning the chip does work and shows up as Nightfall. Maybe it is something with the game?

A patch would work fine for XB1, PS4, XB360 and PS3. and to a lesser extent the WiiU and 3DS. Those platforms are made for online updating. The Wii is not. Not sure if the problem is also on the Wii, but I heard it was on the 3DS.
There are many parents that do not allow their Nintendo systems online, or really know about patching. This is an issue if they buy a new figure and it requires an update. It is a customer service nightmare (haha, a pun - dark element ...). They would have to direct parents on how to fix it. |

#27 Posted: 13:13:15 21/09/2015
Question is, does it showing the trailer on a store kiosk mean the figure is there, and the issue is with our game, or just because the game demons at store show the characters trailer, does that not mean anything, and the characters data could still be missing from the chip?

It does sound like they need a patch/fix for the software, which will be MUCH EASIER than re-calling figures. defpally is correct...regardless of recalling figures or patching software....you're still left with a customer service nightmare. Not sure if the other TTL competitors have experienced this...it seems we get plagued with this stuff more and more as it progresses.
If you have Pyrofer's software, I would scan it and see what the character ID is. Of course, this doesn't bode well for other platforms such as Wii and 3DS. Looks like they needed the extra time for testing / QA Assurance. Heads will roll on this one. Easily will cost them millions to fix/address...never mind the negativity and lost customers who end up unhappy. |

I would have to figure that if the video terminals (or actually..whatever the heck those things are) have some sort of "trigger" basically for each of the skylanders so it will play the corresponding video. So something is reading it as Nightfall in the store. However, the actual retail games don't register it at all...so it's probably something in the game. The possibility of course is that the data in the game was not finished correctly, and the character might not be able to be played at all until an update. And it's possible they DONT put out an update whatsoever. Which would kind of stink, but I don't believe they patched anything else up before...and they're likely already working on Skylanders 6 so...

Activisions support page asked me to send them a direct message, so I did.
The game can be updated, and I think that's what will end up happening. All they have to do is get the game to read the figure somehow, and send the patch to each company for certification. I have quite a few Nightfalls on hold at a local Target. I'm taking my 3DS up there, so when I can test which of them works. IF I go through all of them without a single working one, it will tell me it's either the figure or the games. I placed multiple Nightfalls on the portal last night and they all showed the trailer and gameplay on the demo unit.

Will be interesting to see how they work this out. I'm not feeling all that bad Wave 2 wasn't available at TRU on release any more. If I were to bet, I'd say they figured this out and were able to put the brakes on TRU prior to shipping to store until they get it figured out, but Target had probably already shipped them to store and their employees in some stores put them out.
Take heart, Wave 2 is NEVER rare, in fact come Thanksgiving people will probably be upset that it is all they see in stores along with Wave 1. No, it doesn't excuse the problem existing, but in the long run it will be fine. They really need to make some sort of statement before speculation becomes rampant. |

If you guys want some support on your 'problem is with the game' theory; remember Nightfall's model was unfinished in all but one trailer and even then not properly animated. She also couldn't be used AT ALL on Gamescon or the VV office event, despite being there.
What are the possibilities that they had to finish her in a rush and in the end it didn't actually work?

My Clown Cruiser works just fine on the Wii U and 3DS versions.
I've been talking with Activisions support team for the past hour, giving them pictures and stuff so they can pinpoint the problem. I say buy and keep the figure. If the games need a patch, wait for it. If it's a figure issue, wait until Activision offers a replacement. That's what I'm doing.

Not sure. The game reads the chip, or it wouldn't say this figure can't work in this game. When you place the figure on a store demo unit, it shows Nightfalls gameplay trailer.
I keep asking Activision if I can keep the character until a replacement is offered on their support site, but they replied by saying I could send the figure back for a different figure, but inhale all other figures, unless they want to send me a golden Hot Streak from the starter packs, or a Shark Tank. I told them I'm willing to wait until the site offers a corrected figure, if it's a figure issue, or I can wait for a patch if it's a game issue.

I'm willing to bet that it CAN be patched if the portal recognizes it as a non-existent figure. Just figure out what the identifier number (or whatever) is on the current Nightfall chips, and tell the game that this identifier is for him. This won't help Wii users, but, it always seems like a miracle that they still even support the Wii at all.

That's what I'm hoping. I'm keeping my figure just in case. I mean I only lost 14 bucks, but it's worth the risk not having to hunt for a new one.
If all else fails and I can't get it replaced, I'll just buy the new version.

if this is the software then basically its worst ever for collectors. patches dont last forever on their servers. so in a distant future the patch will be gone and the game on disc will be forever broken. you will not be able to play the figurine in the game ever again. this will lower the value of the collection. so i hope its only a broken chip problem.... if this is activision trying to control figure releases, like not let you play the figurines before their actually release date... then you can always try change the clock time on the console and see what happen..

If it is the Wii, they will have to do replacement disks. Patches are fine for the others, except maybe the 3DS. This will be hugely expensive for them and probably a another nail in the coffin of future Wii versions for Skylanders games.
I've got a feeling they are frantically trying to get a grip on Wave 2 shipments right now. |
