What are private users? [CLOSED]

when I dowsn to the bottom of the page it shows me who is online so how do I know who is private and what does a private member do and mean?!

Users who don't want their online status to be public. You can change this in settings by checking or unchecking the 'Online Status' box.

Private users are those who simply check the private status in the settings of their profile so that way they can't be seen when online.

You don't. That's the point of it. They don't necessarily want to be seen online.

I still don't understand the point of being a private user. Like certain situations I understand, but I see a lot of users who have private status but they'll still post on the forum. Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose of being a private user?

Nah it doesn't defeat the purpose at all. I'll go on private if I'm having one of those days and I want to be quiet.

Well, those that can log in can simply stalk the "Last Visit" thing on somebodies profile. IMO that defeats private status completely.

Yeah, the situation you described is understandable, but I'm talking about those who are always in private status even though they usually post regularly like any other user.
